fable review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about fable by Adrienne Young. i gave this book 2/5 stars. first off, thank you so much Wednesday Books and Netgalley for an arc of this book! and this book is going to be an honest review, not changed by the publisher and/or the author.

trigger warning- violence, death, child abuse, blood, death of a parent, murder, kidnapping, grief, physical abuse, child abuse.

overall, most of this book made literally zero sense. like, i feel like so much was happening. at so many parts of this book, there was just so much happening in this book. and it was just such a mess with the different plot points and what was actually happening, it really was just such a mess.

personally, i think Fable as a character was annoying. like, she would keep going on and on and on about how she wants to find her father, and how she wants to have this reuniting moment with him, when from the start, we know it’s not going to go well. like, it was easy for anyone to see that he left her for a reason, and on one random day he’s not gonna be like, oh yeah i’ll be your father again.

also, the first about 70% of this book was honestly such a mess. like, it was just so boring and nothing was happening. i guess it might be just setting the scene for the rest of the book and even the rest of this series. but, i feel like i get it, but i feel like it should have had more happening then the world building, or at least have some sort of balance.

and also the characters were just so boring. like, it was kind of cringey and just some of the most basic YA characters. personally, i feel like if this book came out and had these typed of characters when divergent and twilight came out, i would most likely liked this book so much more. and liked the characters and their very shitty backstory way more.

the writing of this book had it’s moments. like, i feel like at some parts i could completely think what is happening, and like i could see the scene playing out. but, then there was times in this book that parts just literally went over my head, which got to be annoying. it honestly had it’s moments, but it might just be me cause i don’t really like fantasy.

also, the characters of this book just didn’t develop at all. like, there as parts, were can and should grow, but instead it literally didn’t at all. which, just got to be a pain in the ass. and especially since this is a series, i feel like they should have grown at least a little bit. but, i do feel like they should have developed.

but, one thing that did develop was the romance. which, wasn’t really for the better. like, i feel like the boy Fable should have gotten with, didn’t get with, and kind of got with someone else. and it was just a mess, and i think they could have fixed this book up so much, but instead it was honestly kind of a mess. and they didn’t even need to romance in this book, since they could have completely done with out it, but whatever.

i also know a lot of YA pirates books have this massive crew, which is cool. but, in here is it a six person crew, which i expected to like it more, since i feel like we could get each person’s personality more. but, instead we don’t. like, each character felt like a copy and paste of each other, and i literally have zero clue of any of their names, which you could probably tell cause i didn’t write them down. but, i feel like we should have gotten more of a personality of these.

but, these characters are pirates, but also like not pirates. like, they have all of the traits of a pirate does have. which, i really liked, but they like aren’t pirates. so, they would do what they do stereotypical things, but they weren’t like actually pirates. which, is a mess, but i don’t really know what to call it. so, don’t know why i’m calling it that, but whatever.

and also, i know i called this a fantasy, but it like isn’t a fantasy. and i feel like this is really only one fantasy thing. so, i feel like the only real fantasy part of this book was the whole fantasy part was like one thing aka the city the lived in and visited. but, that was really it and kind of annoying not gonna lie. but, most of this i would like call to be an adventure, if that makes sense.

and honestly, there really isn’t a point of this book. like sure, i guess it might be the setting or that they are supposed to be badasses or something. but, this book honestly just felt like a high school essay, so it was just not it for me, if you couldn’t tell. and this book might have just been a little for the author to sallow, but it was just a mess.

but, that is it for today! i hope you enjoyed this post, cause i didn’t really enjoy this book, and i kind of feel like reviews were someone complains is lowkey better. but, i still think that i won’t pick up book two, unless i get super bored. needless to say, thank you for sending me this arc netgalley and wednesday books.
