some laneys died review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about some laneys died by Brooke Skipstone. i gave this book 3/5 stars. first off, thank you so much netgalley and skipstone publishing for an arc of this book! first off, this is going to be an honest review, and isn’t going to be changed by the publisher or the author, or be biased because i got an arc.

trigger warning- addiction, alcoholism, death, drug abuse, mental illness, physical abuse, rape, suicidal thoughts, suicide, blood, medical content, kidnapping, car accident, abortion, murder.

honestly, this book was such a mess, but like a good mess. like, most of this didn’t make sense, cause so many things were happening, and there was so many different plots and everything, it didn’t make sense, but then it made sense, but it didn’t make sense at the same time. and i don’t even know how to explain it, but i feel like i didn’t understand anything, but i also understood it.

and i think that went hand in hand with the whole parallel universe, since there was like 10 Laney’s, which was cool but also just such a mess, since you never really understand what was happening, and which Laney was that Laney or something. like, i really liked it, but then i was like confused but not. but, i kind of feel like the more confused the better in some books, which i feel like this was super confusing, but in a good way.

but, i do wish we got told more of the universe. since i feel like they were going back and forth between the two so much and i just don’t know/understand how they can just go between the different universes. like it honestly just didn’t make sense to me whatsoever. and i just wished they explained how these parallel universes worked. but, i guess they just explained everything more, since i feel like having these parallel universe just needs to be explained.

and with the jumps and different universes, i just didn’t understand this. like, i feel like there was so many jumps it really made everything made less and less sense as they went into another universe. and i feel like with every jump we took, i just lost more and more of the story, since nothing made sense. but, i guess that is just me.

but, i also don’t understand why Laney acted like the family therapist for this whole book. like, i feel like the adults in her life just pushed everything onto her, and also she was like so calm because she can go into these different universes, so we’ll just push it on her. and like most of the plot of this book could be completely fixed if everyone either a.) just talked to each other and wasn’t so closed off or b.) they went to group therapy.

for me, i feel like Laney was still such a powerful and strong character. like she did go threw so much in her family, with cheating and your parents getting with new people coming into the family, i feel like it was so cool to see all of it and to see how she handled everything that was going down. and i mean, good for her cause i don’t think i could keep it together as much as she did.

but, i will say, Skipstone did a good job with creating the different YA trends into one book. like, i feel like she really took down the whole mystery and thriller hype that is super powerful right now, so i thought it was pretty cool and i actually liked. but, also there was the whole sci fi element to it. like, with having them both woven together was cool, since they both go hand in hand honestly.

there also is so much chaotic writing in this book. with the whole jumping back and forth, it was like so chaotic, which was like cool but not cool, if that makes sense. and it kind of took some time to get into and to fully understand it all after it all. but, i feel like once i started to figure it out, the book like just ended. also, i feel like this is some trend in books by older authors with the whole trying to write like teens would speak, but this book honestly failed with that completely.

and also there was so many chanced that it could have just had better and smoother writing. like, there was so many things that could have just been fixed and made a little bit easier to read. but, i feel like it kind of worked, since this book was kind of a mess and it was just kind of odd. but, i also feel like there was jokes in this book, that were just weird.

i also really like that we were able to get the whole different parts with the life, death, and the multiple universes all combined into one. i personally really liked the whole narrative about how different things worked once something happened like that, and also the whole someone died in the other universe was pretty cool. and i really liked it honestly.

but, i do feel like Laney had such a one track mind honestly, like she really only cared about one thing in her mind at all times, which got to be a bit annoying. so, having her have this one track mind, it got to be so annoying and it was really hard to actually know what is happening, and to be able to tell if these things are real or not.

and i mean, the side characters are all kind of odd. like, they have these different random things. of course, you have this random group of friends in the start of the novel with their party, and also the whole creepy high school flirt / perv. so, that was just adding more and more to the story, since i feel like there was more layers to the story, which was just interesting.

anyway, that is all for today! i hope you enjoyed this post, even though it was kind of a mess since this book was a bit of a mess. but, thank you so much netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book. and of course, like i said, this was an honest review.

stay gold review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about stay gold by Tobly McSmith. i gave this book 5/5 stars. if i’m being completely honest, i was kind of scared to read this book cause the main characters name is Pony, and obviously the title is in the outsiders, and that book really impacted my life, so i was super scared cause i know people hated this book. but then again, i feel like half of the characters in the outsiders are queer so yeah. fun fact- she actually blocked me for a day on twitter cause i called dally a bisexual king.

trigger warning- transphobia, hate crime, homophobia, dead naming, suicidal thoughts, violence, bullying, emotional abuse, physical abuse, medical trauma, body shaming, misogyny, dysphoria, use of slurs, alcoholism, self harm, public outing, death of a loved one, harry potter mentioned.

honestly, i just want to clear some air with this book first off so. with a title like ‘stay gold’ and the main characters name as pony, you’d expect there to be a lot of the outsiders references, or it to be a published Johnny x Pony fan fiction. but, i’m gonna tell you, it’s not. there is really one single outsiders reference in this whole book, and it is just talking about how good that book is and how you can learn something from Johnny, i personally thought it was super good and it really was used in such an impactful way cause most people have read that book, so i feel like it was just very very well done, and i don’t say that about many books.

but, McSmith did such an amazing job with getting you attached to Pony by the end of the book. like, i felt so much for him, and i completely was like so close to crying at one point, but i didn’t. and i feel like they did such an amazing job with working everyone out and i really just felt so bad for him throughout the story. and i just feel like there was such an amazing job of this book and how you could really tell the emotions that Pony was feeling and you could really feel how in love and how happy he was throughout this book.

and i feel like family was done in this book pretty good, like i really think McSmith did an amazing job with showing how not everyone is super supportive of you, or at least what i’ve seen in my own family, and i’m not even out. but, i feel like having Pony’s dad be a dick, it kind of worked in this really strange way, since teens might come from a very supportive or even a not supportive family, and i really liked that we got to see both sides of the spectrum. like, i thought it was just super cool to see the double sides of it, and i love that many people could probably see themselves in this book.

but, can we also take a moment to talk about Georgia’s dad? like, he was so sweet and caring and like the perfect family figure and such a good YA dad, and he was just so so soft. and i also really liked McSmith really fleshed out both of the families, and you could really understand the family and we were like part of the family in this kind of weird way, which i honestly really liked. since, i feel like we just knew these families so well.

and i also completely loved Rocky, Pony’s sister. like, she was just so sweet and was so understanding about what was happening and how she always stuck up for her little brother and it was just so cute. but, it did kind of annoy me that she left her brother at home with their transphobic dad, but i guess she needs to go on with her life, it just annoyed me a bit when i was reading it.

but, this is more of a general issue with this book, and i lot of YA books in general, was the adults trying to write like teenagers would speak. like, after a while, it just gets so annoying, and their is a time and a place to talk like that, and especially when you are texting, like yeah when your texting you can write like that, but just don’t make it cringey and typing like they actually are, and not just like super boring and like another older white lady that thinks they are hip on facebook.

also, i completely loved that there was that whole Love Actually moment. this is probably a sin or something, but i’ve never seen Love Actually, but i really really enjoyed that and i thought it was so cool and cute. like, i really liked that Pony say something she really liked and created this whole cute little moment for her favorite movie.

and i’ve been reading reviews of this book, escepially the low ratings of this book. but, as someone that is slowly coming to terms with her sexuality, i just wanted to talk about my experience. everyone is saying something along the same things, this book is to sad and it needs to be happy and happier themes of this book. yes of course it’s good to have happy and feel good queer lit, but there are harsher things that queer kids face, and go threw on a daily bases. and just because bad things happen, doesn’t mean you don’t get your happy ending. like, if you read this book, you’d know that Pony went threw A LOT, but he is still here, alive, and got to have his happy ending. which i feel like we all need.

but, just know i’m not trans, so take what i said with a grain of salt, and everyone will have different opinions, so just know these are mine. so, i would honestly find some own voices reviews, cause they might have different opinions especially about the ending of this book, so i just wanted to clear the air before i close this out.

anyway, that is all for today! i honestly really love this book, and i honestly hope more people read it, cause i feel like a lot of people can benefit from it, but it is a harder read honestly. but, i still think it was such a good book, and i loved the romance we got.

shipped review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about shipped by Angie Hockman. i gave this book 4/5 stars. honestly, this book was so good and i really liked the whole enemies to lovers, but also the workplace romance. i thought this book was just a super cute workplace romance. and i really liked how both of the characters worked together and how they tried to hide their romance.

trigger warning- misogyny, sexism, death of a parent, vomit, grief, domestic abuse, emotional abuse, panic attack/disorder, ocean / deep water, water anxiety, sharks.

honestly, i feel like if you are a fan of the hating game and/or the unhoneymooners, you’ll like this book. because, in the unhoneymooners, they are forced to go on the whole company cruise together, so it has the whole, you need to go on this honeymoon together vibe. but, it also has the whole, we are going up for the same job, so it has the whole hating game thing.

it was also so cool to see the different ways the workplace works and how sexist they are. like, it is such a real world thing, but i feel like in romance books they have the perfect job, where everyone loves each other at their coffee shop or their flower shop. so, getting to see an office job, where they don’t brush the sexism to the side and it’s a forefront, i really liked it. and i really liked that they talked about how we need to work 10 times harder then men to even get looked at, so that was honestly so cool to read in this book.

i also feel like the ending of the book was weird, cause i wished there was more romance and the end had way more romance heavy, but instead it as like pure work drama. which, yeah it was cool to see the whole job drama come together, but i just wished there was more closure with them getting together finally and if they are dating or whatever they want to do with their life together.

but, Henley and Graeme had such amazing banter and chemistry. like, i feel like whenever they were talking to each other i feel like i could really see a couple doing this and saying this to each other, which is something i really really liked. and they honestly made me so happy when they were talking and just ‘fighting’ it was so cool. and they were just so adorable throughout this book, but i honestly shipped them so much.

personally, i really like books that take place on vacation, or not the basic Seattle, since i feel like a lot of romance books take place in Seattle. so, having this book take place in the Galapagos Island was honestly so cool. like, i really liked that we got to see the very basic sight seeing and also just like them going in the ocean and going on hikes, i just thought it was so cool and i really liked them together and to watch them do the things that normal tourist do. and i also thought it was cool to read about the Galapagos because of when they talk about it in Schitt’s Creek.

i also really liked the whole part about this book with them being like enemies to lovers and a workplace romance. like, i feel like it was just super cool and i really liked seeing them being ‘enemies’ in Henley’s mind, so i really liked honestly working out that and them becoming like ‘friends’ in this book as they work together more and more.

but, i also kind of wish that we get a spin off with Henley’s sister. like i feel she was the kind of character that was the basic just out of college and now trying to get my life together character, and i would totally want to read about her, even if it isn’t a romance, i feel like she is just a very interesting character and i kind of want to read and understand her more.

i also know that in the trigger warning section of this post i talked about a few things that i just want to clear up. the domestic and emotional abuse isn’t between the two main leads. it is actually more between other characters, which i’m not going to bring up and say who it is, since i don’t want to spoil anything. but, yeah it isn’t between the two main characters, which i honestly am really excited for.

i also really liked the names for all these characters, like Henley, Walsh, and Graeme is honestly such cool names and not the basic names we see over and over again in romance books. so, i thought it was so cool and i actually really liked them and i just thought it was super cool to have actual cool names and not stupid and overused names.

anyway, that is all for today! i hope you enjoyed this post! and honestly this was such a hard review to write cause i really liked it, so i feel like it was so hard to talk about it. but, i honestly think this book was just so cute, and i really can’t wait to see what Hockman writes in the future.

the stitchers review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about the stitchers by Lorien Lawrence. i gave this book 3/5 stars. honestly, this book was honestly kind of good, and it really shocked me on how well it worked, but of course, it wasn’t perfect. but, thank you so much Netgalley and Abrams Kids for an arc of this book! this is an honest review, and my thoughts aren’t going to be changed by the publisher and/or the author.

trigger warnings- death of a parent, grief

first thing first, i feel like if you were or are a fan of goosebumps and/or nancy drew, this is the book for you. like, it definitely is a more modern version of this, so if you like those, i feel like if you want to go back to the good old days, you’d like it. i definitely feel like this book would honestly work so well with a goosebumps book, and gave me so many goosebumps vibes, so i really enjoyed it.

this also is a nice slow burn book. like, i feel like they never really to many book that kind of move slow, and i really like to jump head first into the mystery of books, but this was really cool that it was slow. like, we really got to understand the characters and their motivation and what their lifestyle is, and how Quinn got shaped to be the person she was. so, i thought it was so cool, and i really liked to see it all pan out and to get a real feel for the world and the characters.

but, i do wish that we got to see more about the Oldies. like, i feel like they did talk about them, and they really talked about them, and their lifestyle, but i wish we got to see more about them and like how they function. but, i do think that we did get to see more of it in the end, which i guess was super cool. but, i do wish we got to see more of it up front, and not more before the end of the book.

i honestly really liked matt and quinn’s relationship. like, i really liked the whole ‘fake dating,’ if you really want to call it that, cause their like 13. but, i really liked how they grew to be these really good friends and how matt didn’t think quinn was crazy when she thought the oldies were vampire’s, aliens or whatever else she thought they were. and i liked their dynamitic and how they both balanced each other out with their different adventures.

and i’m honestly really happy that we are gonna see more of them in the next book of the story. since i feel like their ending was honestly pretty open and i did really enjoy it and i feel like if it ended up closely, it wouldn’t work that well. but, it was a pretty wide ending, so i greatly enjoyed the ending of this book and how it all worked.

but, i also feel like this book had to much ‘fluff.’ i’m not sure if that makes sense, cause it’s not romance at all, but more like family drama. like, it mostly was just seeing quinn’s grandmother and how different things panned out in the world of this book, and how some of the family worked out. but, it was honestly so cool, even if it was kind of boring. since, i did kind of like how quinn picked apart her grandmothers mind and how other people thought quinn was honestly insane.

and i know as we get closer to those halloween in july read a thons, i feel like this book would honestly be so good for an atmospheric read. like, i feel like we really got sucked into this story and how it all worked out, and how it was going to work. and i honestly recommend this book, and to see the different ways things work.

this might just be me, but i do really like the talk about grief, especially since it was a younger character, i really liked how they talked about it all. and especially since this character was about 13, i thought it was cool to see how she was handling the death of her father and how everyone in your life will grieve differently. and i feel like it is so powerful to see a kid grieve someone, since you never know what a kid will go threw, so it might be kind of comforting, in a weird way.

but, i also think it was cool to see the mother-daughter relationship. like, it was cool to see how their relationship worked, especially since the death of her father impacted them both so differently, and how the death made everyone act differently and how they both are doing and what their life is like post death. so, that was honestly really cool and i lowkey want more books with a good mother-daughters relationship.

for kids, i do feel like this book was honestly a pretty good book. like, i feel like it would be super engaging cause i feel like it was so cool and that they will probably really like this story and the characters and the plot. and it is enough of the horror book, if someone you know that is younger wants to read horror, they’ll like this and feel like they are reading something scary, even if it isn’t that bad.

anyway, that is all for today! i honestly really liked this book, and hopefully i’ll get approved for an arc of this book, fingers crossed. since i feel like it is gonna be a good book, since this was such a strong book. and it really honestly really set up the next book in the series, so that was honestly so cool. but, thank you so much netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book!

part of your nightmare review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about part of your nightmare by Vera Strange. i gave this book 3/5 stars. first off, thank you so much disney books and netgalley for an arc of this book! the thoughts and opinions in this book are my own, and aren’t changed by the publisher and/or author.

trigger warning- none

my biggest issue with this book was how when anything happened, no matter how small it was, the chacters would say #itsucks or #lovecoffee. and it just got to be annoying cause like it didn’t do anything to the plot, besides annoy the actual hell out of me. and it was so unneeded, and i get that they are kids, like middle schoolers, so yeah that is understandable, but Strange lowkey took it to the extreme and made me want to poke out my eyes.

i also wish that the characters were fleshed out more. like, yeah i know it’s a middle grade and kids don’t have the best attention span, but i feel like the characters were all very flat and dull. and also they would bring things up and like forget about them, which was just annoying. but, i feel like Strange could have at least rounded these characters more and not made them so flat and boring tween girls that drink to much starbucks and say hashtag to much.

but, i’m also kind of surprised about how much i liked the ending of it. like, i really didn’t expect to like it as much, since i thought it was going to be something like, oh shit well that’s over lol. but, it was actually really good and like super interesting and not terrible and like so boring. so honestly this was so surprising and honestly pretty good. and it’s also not the cookie cutter ending that i thought it would be, and which some middle grade books tend to be.

but, i do feel like the ending was very rushed though. like, i mean they could have had this ending that tied everything together, but instead it doesn’t really tie that much together, since it was like oh shit, one things, then another thing, and finally the ending, in a matter of pages. so, i wish it was wrapped up better and wasn’t so quick. since this whole book was honestly so good and interesting, and i just expected it to be tied together better.

honestly, this book was kind of cool, and i hope each book in the series do the same thing too, about how they kept talking about being eco friendly. like, i feel like we never get a character who is super into the environment and to save the planet, so having Shelly being into it was super cool and i really enjoyed that part of the book. and also the different conversations that were brought up about being eco friendly were honestly kind of cool and i really liked reading about.

plus, since this is a middle grade, i do find it really cool that Strange was kind of bringing up real life issues into her books. like, obviously she talked about being eco friendly, but also just bringing up different topics like peer pressure, since that really got us into this mess. and just can now release how dangerous peer pressure actually is, and why you shouldn’t do it to be cool or anything like that.

but, i did find it to be so cool that there was some little mermaid references in this book. like, some of the names were from the movie and i honestly thought it was kind of cool to read that and to pick them out. like, it is so small of a thing, but i just really liked. and also how the town was called Triton Cove, which i really liked, again which is so small, but it was just kind of cool to see if you liked the movie.

i also really liked the friendship between Enrique and Shelley. like, it was just so cool and i really liked reading the parts with them together. like, they were just such a cute friendship cause they were both so into marine life and the aquarium, and to see how they acted around each other was so cute. and i also really like that they never got together or anything, since that would be really weird cause they are like 12.

but, i do find that it was kind of cool that disney is making this whole goosebumps series, honestly. like, yeah they have the kingdom keepers, which is honestly so cool, but it’s not that scary, and i mean a lot of people read goosebumps and it kind of raised them, i mean i definitely did. like, to this day i have a whole self and another smaller shelf filled with rl stine books. so, i feel like this is cool to see goosebumps meets disney villains. and i honestly really loved it.

anyway, that is all for today! this is honestly kind of a shorter review, but i feel like i can’t drag it out cause it’s a shorter book, plus a middle grade. but, this was still such a cool book, and i really liked what happened in this book. so, thank you so much disney and netgalley for an arc of this book!

go the distance review

hello everyone! today i am going to talk about go the distance by Jen Calonita. i gave this book 3/5 stars. first thing first, thank you so much netgalley and disney books for an arc of a book! but, this is going to be an honest review, so the publisher or the author isn’t going to change this review, or even because i have an arc, it is going to be honest. but, also happy pub date to this book!

trigger warning- none

personally, i feel like if you read this book, you either need to just watch the movie before you start it, or know it like the back of your hand. like, i feel like this book takes place right after the movie events. so, i feel like you need to know what is happening from that book to really understand this book. but, i feel like the older ones just completely take the movie and twist them, but in here they take the story we all know and love, but then add on to the story after the events of the movie. which, i honestly really liked.

but, i feel like in this book they always said meg this, meg that, meg did this, which got to be annoying after a while. like, this book series has how many other books, and i believe Calonita has wrote other books, i feel like there should have been more fluid writing and not so like this and that and she did this. like, i’m not sure if it is just me, but i honestly just expected them to be so much better.

i also feel like the whole ‘quest’ was kind of weird. like, Hera was like oh you need to find this flute, and i know in the description they talk about going into the underworld, but i feel like Hera never brought it up till the end. and then she was freaking out about it, cause it just got to be a lot, since she was freaking out for no real reason, and it honestly was a bit much after awhile. since she was just very dramatic.

but, Meg kept calling him ‘wonder boy’ and it honestly got to be so annoying. like, she barely called him actually Hercules, it was just straight up wonder boy and it literally made me kind of mad. cause, like there is a time and a place for pet names, but it just got to be so annoying after awhile. so, i mean, i get it, but it was just so annoying.

i also feel like Meg wasn’t the same Meg from the movies. like, i get that you want to change to it so it fits better for the book layout, but it just didn’t work ? i mean, i feel like in here she was very self centered and didn’t really care who she hurt because she had this goal in mind, and didn’t care what she did till she got it. but, that might just be me, but i just didn’t like her in here.

personally, i feel like the other books in this series are geared more for the YA audience, like i feel like everyone that really watched these movies as a kid is either a teenager or like early 20s. so, i feel like the book should have been a bit more mature, like not full blown sex scandals or anything, just the characters talking and kissing and swearing the basic curse words. but, i feel like this book has way more of an upper middle grade or first real dive into YA feel. which, isn’t really a bad thing, but i just expected the writing and everything to be more mature.

another thing that kind of annoyed me was that there wasn’t really much of a plot. like, it kind of felt like a high school outline, like you need to build up the story, the flute, the underworld, and then the ending. and like that is it. i honestly just wish there was more plot and there was something more and their was like an actual solid plot.

it was also a very predictable book. like, you know going into this book what the end goal is, and how it was going to all play out. like, i’m not sure if i just expected it to be any different, but i feel like it is so easy to be like oh yeah this is gonna happen and this is gonna be the end goal. which, i guess is expected, cause it is a disney book, but who knows.

but, i guess it was cool to watch Meg go threw this book and deal with things from her childhood and how she was shaped to be who she is now. like, i really enjoyed that part of the book, especially because she got to see her fight with her trauma with Hades and watch her go threw all of that, i honestly really liked her overcoming it all. and with that being said, to watch that happen and watch her go threw everything again and be the good guy this time, and especially get her happy ending was cool.

on the other hand, the last 20% of this book was a mess. like, i feel like it had it’s happy ending, but it was like boring. it honestly was almost like they had only 30 pages left to use, so they literally just took the ending and slammed it all together in this shit show, cause so much happened in such a short amount of time. and it really annoyed me cause it all went over my head, if i’m being honest.

anyway, that is all for today! thank you so much for an arc of this book! like i said, this is an honest review and it wasn’t changed by the publisher and/or the author. and happy pub date to this book and the author! but, this is a shorter review cause i feel like most of the book was the same thing happening again and again and i really didn’t like it that much, but i’m still happy i read it.

kisses and croissants review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about kisses and croissants by Anne Sophie Jouhanneau. i gave this book 3/5 stars. first off, happy pub date to this book! but, also thank you so much netgalley and Delacorte Press for an arc of this book! and of course, this is an honest review, and isn’t going to be changed by the publisher or the author, this will be an honest review.

trigger warning- car accident

personally, i feel like if this book came out when Anna and the French kiss, or hell even in the YA book peak when twilight came out, it would be a book everyone would be over. like, yeah it is very similar to that book, but i still feel like if you liked that, you might like this. since, they both have the same plot and such, and if you want to go back to og YA books, but don’t necessarily want to read those books again, i highly recommend this. or even if you are one of those few people that liked emily in paris, i feel like you’d like this book, since the main characters are both annoying as all hell. but, on a more positive side, i feel like if you liked to all the boys i’ve loved before and love and gelato, and want a quick romance, it would be good.

one of my biggest issues with this book is that it is a lot of telling, propose to showing what is happening. like it was like i want this, i did this, i felt this, so you get the point, and it just got to be on my last nerves after awhile. for me, your in Paris, with a guy who is supposed to be hot, and eating all of these foods, and show their feelings and how much they love the food, but instead, they just tell everything. and telling everything that was happening, and like everything was telling, but i guess it could be forgotten since it was still kinda cute at some points.

i also wish we got to see more of Paris. like, i do feel like we got to see the city, but it was like select few things, like the river, a ferris wheel, a lot of museums, and a couple little things here and there. like, i kind of wished they did the cheesy thing and went to the Eiffel Tower and saw that and everything, since i feel like it was just museums at all times, which gets boring, since they see like one painting max’s at each place. and this is kind of weird, but i kind of wished they ate more food that is from paris, cause i feel like they only really ate salads, and if you’re writing a book in paris, take advantage of it and talk about all the deserts.

but, as a reader, i feel like i need to understand the characters and like really know them, especially when it is a romance book. but, in this book, i feel like we didn’t really know any of the characters. like, i can deal with the friends or some random side character not having that big of a personality, but when it is the two main characters, plus all the friends, it got to be annoying. like, everyone was so one dimensional, and like we only knew that Mia and her friends liked ballet, and i couldn’t tell you a damn thing about Louis for the life of me. and i can’t even tell you were Mia was born and where she lived before Paris cause this whole book was just ballet.

with that being said, it really put a strain on the romance, and you could tell very easily. like, since they are so flat characters, and they barely had emotions, which i’ll talk about later, it was hard to root for their romance. like, i feel that since they were so boring and her whole life was ballet, i couldn’t connect them together and see a spark between the two of them. and that might just be me, but i feel like the romance had no spark at all, which was so god damn annoying.

but, i feel like we were supposed to believe that this was gonna be the next big romance, but there was so much drama. like, before this girl even came to Europe Louis had other girlfriends, which is normal for a semi attractive man, but she below it out of the water. and then in the end, the whole twist, was so stupid. like, it was a way to tie this book up quickly, and was so over the top and boring. like, i literally hated the ending cause it was just so stupid and dramatic. and it also took away from the story, since they could have just rode away on his scooter into happily ever after, but instead it had to be a drama fest.

this book is also nothing special. like, overall it follows the basic YA romance structure, which wasn’t a bad thing from afar. but, i feel like with it being so close to the structure, it was so stupid because you knew when they were gonna have a falling out, or when they were going to have some petty drama between two people at the academy, and it got to be a bit annoying. but, like i said, it’s a cheesy YA romance so what can you expect.

and also, this books couple is literally just falling for each other because they think the other person is hot. like, she never once said anything about his personality or anything besides the fact that she thought he was super attractive, which i guess isn’t the end of the world in books, but i’m more of a personality person, so yeah. but, i feel like there should have been more then just thinking each other is hot and they can dance cause it just seemed petty.

but, i read a lot of thrillers and mysteries and watch a lot of true crime, so take this with a grain of salt. but, i found it to be so weird that Mia like met Louis and like ran off with him. like, you literally don’t even know who this man is, and especially in a city that you barely know. so, who the hell knows were he is going to take you. so, that was kind of stupid, but i’m probably just thinking into it to much.

this also might just be me, but i feel like in Paris that most, if not all, are romance books, which is expected. but, this book didn’t really work that well for romance, which i already said. but, i feel like this book would have worked so much better if this was a self love and friendship story. like, of course the romance didn’t work, but also i feel like there needs to be this whole story for self love, and doing your career that you love. but, instead the romance was the main thing, since self love needs to be talked about.

anyway, that is all for today! thank you so much netgalley and Delacorte press for an arc of this book! i honestly feel like this book wasn’t for me, but hopefully someone will like this book and find that it is a cute and good book. but, i feel like this book just had a couple things wrong with it, but hopefully will find this book good and actually like it. and also happy pub date!

under your skin review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about under your skin by Rose McClelland. i gave this book 3/5 stars. first off, thank you so much netgalley and the publisher for an arc of this book! this is going to be an honest review, and my feelings aren’t gonna be changed by the author or the publisher.

trigger warning- domestic abuse, emotional abuse, addiction, alcholism, infertility, miscarriage, rape.

first thing first, i honestly really liked the multiple POVs. like, it is such a small and simple thing, but i really liked that we got to see the different people and what they were doing. like, i never really read a book with a detective pov, and i really liked to see Kerry and what she was doing and how she was trying to solve the case with her partner, simon. like, it was just so cool to see who she thought did it, and how she tried to untie the different clues. and then like kyle and to see what he is thinking about the disappearance. and then the other person in the town, Julie, which was just cool cause she didn’t know Hannah, and also seeing Hannah’s co worker wife’s pov was really interesting. and of course, seeing some of it in hannah’s pov was just so fucking cool. like i really enjoyed seeing what she was thinking and the flashbacks.

and i do find it really cool that when you were reading you could get to see how everyone had different thoughts what were happening and to see the two different sides of the coin, which i really liked. and with that being said, i thought it was cool because everything was changing and it was changing your opinion on who did it, since you were seeing so many different things. like like as the intentions came out, it was just super cool to see it all.

but, i do feel like it was super easy to tell who did it. like, i feel like it was a good thing, since from there it was just spiraling. so, getting to see their actions and then them actually getting pinned on doing it was so cool. but, i do wish McClelland didn’t make it so obvious from the start, but i mean i still really fucked with it. and i normally don’t really like book were the killer/kidnapper/stalker or whatever they are supposed to be told very early or easy to figure out, but it was honestly really cool in here.

i also feel like as we got more and more into this story the worst it got. like, this was a good book, don’t get me wrong, but i feel like it had it’s moments were it wasn’t that good. like, the start of the book was honestly super good and it was like suspenseful and full of this mystery, but i feel like it got to be a mess more and more we got into this book. but, like i just wished that some of it got changed, but that’s just me. and i feel like the mystery was solved to quickly, which probably is part of the issue with this book.

with that being said, there is so much random crap in this book. like we would get these long talks about how Kerry wanted her boss to marry her, and how she had such a big crush on him. like, it got to be a bit much after a while, since like we’re reading about someone that is missing, like i’m sorry but i really don’t care that you want to fuck this married man. or how this one character, the co worker, who had this whole conflict because his long term girlfriend didn’t want to get married. i know it sucks, but i wished they stuck to the mystery and not just throw in random crap to make this book be longer. and i’m not sure if it’s just because i don’t really care about family drama in books, but it still got on my nerves. and i feel like there is a right and a wrong time to talk about wanting to fuck and marry your co worker and a right time about your girlfriend not wanting to marry you, but they did it at all the wrong times.

but, i also believe that this book is an Irish book. which, i’ve never read to many of them, so it was honestly super cool to read this and to kind of see a mystery book that took place in Ireland be the front of this book. but there was a couple of words that i didn’t really know what they meant so i had to look them up, which was honestly kind of fun.

personally, i did really like that we could see the events happening in real time. like, i thought it was super cool to see how different people were reacting and how they helped with the different reactions with the different campaigns. and also to see the searches and to not only get Kyle talking about it, but also to see the police and everything. since, i’ve read quite a few mysteries and a couple of my favorite books are mysteries, so to have this one with many different povs was just super fun and i enjoyed reading about all the different sides of it all and not have it all be so one sided.

i also kind of wish that this book was a little more mixed media. like, i feel like if they showed up police reports and different things like that it would have been so much better. especially like interviews with different people by the police. but, i mean it’s not the end of the world, but more of what i like in books, but it would still be cool.

but, this book does have so many different povs, that i was honestly super scared about, since it couldn’t be that easy to tell them apart. but, i feel like each chapter/character had different enough voices that it was kind of easy to tell who was talking and who was thinking what, which is always something i really liked. and i’ve read some books were it’s hard as hell to tell who is talking, so i personally really liked it and i really thought she did such a good job with talking about each voice and making them all so different. it was honestly kind of impressive.

i don’t have to much say over this, and i don’t want to step over anyone, but i really liked the portrayal of an abusive relationship. like, i think it was so cool to see how amazing she did with writing this relationship and how it starts off so amazing and then a switch just like flips over night. and it was just so cool to see this an i feel like she did it very respectfully and correctly and wasn’t a complete dick about it.

with that being said, i don’t really understand why they made Julia get with Kyle so quickly. like, yeah i guess just to show how much of a dick Kyle really is, but i feel like everyone that wrote a review that i read was like blaming Julia for getting in the relationship. but, like yeah of course she got into the relationship, but i also feel like she was pressured into doing it cause Kyle kept playing the ‘oh my god i’m so depressed and sad that my wife left me.’ so, i don’t know why people just blamed her, when obviously kyle was toxic as all shit. and it just got on my nerves why everyone always blamed her. but, i mean that might just be me, but i feel like Kyle was toxic af and we should act like it was all Julia trying to break up this couple.

anyway, that is all for today! i hope you enjoyed this post, and i know it was a bit longer then what i normally did, since i feel like i had more feelings about this book than i had other books recently. but, thank you so much for an arc of this book, even though this review was a couple months late.
