hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about some books you can read instead your scary books to give you a little bit of a mental health break. i have no clue were i got this idea, but this is going to be filled with some cute books that you can read after Halloween or even during the week.
get a life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. this honestly is such a cute book, and something so many people will need after this week, or even October as a whole. and i think that this book has so many cute moments to give you a break from all of the horror and/or mystery and thrillers. and i might have to read this book again soon, since i just need a book like this, even though i read a ton of romance this week.
a quiet kind of thunder by Sara Barnard. this is probably one of my favorite books in the whole world. and i think that this will be such a sweet little romance, especially if you are looking for a bit more of a mental health awareness story. so, i honestly recommend this one so much, if you want to read a light hearted, but also heart hitting.
heartstoppers by Alice Osemen. this story is such a cute story, and this is a LGBTQ+ story, so if you’re looking for something sweet, you can completely read this. and this book does deal with hard topics, but it is done in such an amazing way. and this book honestly just breaks up all the spooky books and give you a nice little love story. but, this book you can find for free online, i read it on tapas/
love and gelato by Jenna Evans Welch. this is a bit of an older book, so i feel like a lot more people have read this book already. but, this is another travel novel, but it is set in Italy and also in a cemetery, so that’s a little spooky i guess. so, honestly this can be the perfect little spooky book, especially if you want one that isn’t as emotional.
Felix ever after by Kacen Callender. i know everyone and their mother has read this book, and also has been raving about it. but, here’s another push to read this if you haven’t already. this book does deal with some more serious topics, but i still really recommend this, and it’s not spooky whatsoever.
cinderella is dead by KaylnnBayron. this is a fantasy book, but i honestly really liked it. but, i feel like this book is such an amazing fantasy book, and that’s coming from someone who does not like fantasy whatsoever. this is a little bit darker, but it isn’t even a like a bad dark. so, i highly suggest to read this. especially if you want something a little more girl power then other books on this list. .
the haunting of the sunshine girl by Pagie McKenzie. this is a bit of a spooky book. but it isn’t really that bad, even if you want a chill vibe. i mean, this story deals with a girl who figures out she has these powers where she can talk to ghosts. but, this book is still very light hearted, and i don’t really remember it being that spooky or anything. so, i would honestly try and give it ago.
fear street series 2 by rl stine. this is probably the most dark book/series on this list, but it still isn’t that bad. like if you read any of his other books, you would know it’s spooky, but not scary whatsoever. so, if you still want to keep the creepy factor, read these books.
anyway, that’s all for today! i hope you enjoy this post about some books that will calm you down after a spooky reading week, if that is what your into. but, anyway i hope you enjoyed this freak week post, and happy freak week!
hello everyone! today i am going to be doing the hocus pocus book tag. i’m not the biggest hocus pocus fan in the world, but i thought it will still be fun to do this. anyway, happy freak week day 3!
THE SANDERSON SISTERS- A GREAT TRILOGY
the cruel prince by Holly Black. i don’t even know if this can be called a trilogy anymore, since there is a new book coming out soon. but, anyway this isn’t a big surprise that i love this trilogy, since i bring it up any chance that i get for trilogy’s or even series in general.
WINIFRED SANDERSON- A BOOK WITH A TRULY EVIL FEMALE VILLAIN
maleficent from the kingdom keepers by Ridley Pearson. this kind of counts as a book villain, but also that she is a movie villain. but, she is the only one that i can think of. but, she still is an amazing villain in the kk series.
SARAH SANDERSON- A BOOK THAT UNCANNILY ATTRACTS CHILDREN
i’m going to skip this question since i have no clue how to answer this one whatsoever.
MARY SANDERSON- A BOOK THAT IS JUST PLAIN SILLY
get a life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. i honestly don’t mean this in a bad way, but this is honestly this book was just so plain fun, and i really loved how fun and silly all the characters were in this book. and i mean everyone just had this really chill vibe, and all the little funny lines and jokes between all the characters.
MAX- A BOOK THAT IS TRYING REALLY HARD TO BE COOL, BUT DOESN’T SUCCEED
again but better by Christina Riccio. there’s a lot of people that think this book isn’t that good. but, i feel like it was trying so hard to be this cool and life changing book, but it wasn’t that good. and i feel like this book was trying so hard to be the next big thing in YA, but it could not work for me and just didn’t rub me the wrong way.
DANI- A BOOK THAT ISN’T AFRAID TO TELL IT LIKE IT IS
clap when you land by Elizabeth Acevedo. like i feel like it was super cool how it just told everything and how everything just played out. and everything in this book was told so true, and this never said anything like it was. and that is honestly the best part of this book, since it told everything like it was.
BINX- A BOOK SERIES THAT JUST WON’T DIE
mortal instruments by cassie claire. this is honestly for all of her books, and that this series won’t just die. like i give her some props, since she is making bank on these series. but, i just couldn’t get with this series, or anything.
ICE- A BOOK WITH A CHARACTER THAT’S DUMB AS A ROCK
tessa from the after series by Anna Todd. i honestly think that she is the most dumb character in the world. i mean she just keeps getting with the same man that is toxic af. so, i feel like she i super dumb in this series, so i had to bring her up.
THE BLACK FLAME CANDLE- A BOOK OR SERIES YOU WISH YOU COULD RESURRECT
the haunting of the sunshine girl by Paige McKenzie. i honestly loved this series so much back in the day, and i would honestly would love to get a new book in this series new book in the series eventually. or like a new book set a couple years set in the future.
HEADLESSBILLY BUTCHERSON A BOOK THAT’S NOT AS BAD AS PEOPLE MAKE IT OUT TO BE.
hush hush by Becca Fitzpatrick. this book is honestly my guilty pleasure book, and i honestly love this book so freaking much. like this isn’t even that much of a good book, but i still love this book so much. and espcially since it is so like weird and a classic YA book.
WINIFRED SANDERSON’S SPELL BOOK- A BOOK WITH A MID OF IT’S OWN
good girl, bad blood by Holly Jackson. i mean this in the best way possible that this book had a mind of it’s own. and i recently read this book, and i cannot get over how amazing this book and how much i loved it. and that this book was just the perfect mystery/thriller.
GARY MARSHALL- A BOOK WIHT A CAMEO
i’m just going to go with Jasmine Guillory for this question. i know she’s not a book, but like all of her books have characters from other stories she wrote in them. so, technically she fits to some degree.
anyway, that’s all for today! i hope you enjoyed freak week day 3, with this little tag. tomorrow should be back to some creepier content, this was just a laid back tag, since i didn’t know what else to do. but, i hoped you enjoyed this blog post, and i’ll see you guys tomorrow.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all my favorite spooky books. this is kind of a long list, since i have so many favorite spooky books. but, anyway happy freak week day 2!
good girls guide to murder by Holly Jackson. this book has been all over instagram and i honestly cannot recommend this book enough to anybody. this is a book all about the closed case of Andie Bell, who was murdered by her boyfriend Sal Singh. everyone in the town knows he did is, and so do the police. but, Pip Fitz-Amobi isn’t so sure if Sal killed Andie. so, when her final year project comes up, she picks the topic about who actually killed Andie and Sal. but, when she gets looking into this case, more and more things start to go out of place. here’s my full review for this book here.
good good, bad blood by Holly Jackson. so, this book is the second book in the good girls guide to murder, so i’ll kind of talk about it, but also feel free to skip this paragraph. so, this book is all about Pip Fitz-Amobi is not a detective anymore. but, with the help if Ravi Singh she created a true crime podcast about the murder cast they solved last year. with the podcast going viral, Pip put all of her investigating days are far behind her. but, she has to break the promise, since Jamie Reynolds has disappeared and the police won’t do anything for this. but, as she uncovers the towns dark secrets, but this time everyone is listening. my review for this will come up in November.
sadie by Courtney Summers. i’m pretty sure everyone has read this book, so i’ll give a short summary about it. so, this book is all about Sadie, who never has an easy life. but, her life gets so much harder as her sister, Mattie, is found dead. then, West McCray, a radio personality, working in this small town to figure about what happened to the missing girl. but, as he starts his podcast, it is already to late. you can find my review here.
jane anonymous by Laurie Faria Stolarz. this is a really rough book to read, so beware if you read it. but, this book is all about “Jane” who was your basic 17 year old girl, who was getting ready to start her senior year. but, a series of small coincidences would lead to change her life forever, and not in a good way. now, months after since “Jane” escaped captivity and returned home. three months since she was held by a ‘monster.’ you can find my full review here.
one of us is lying by Karen M McManus. everyone also knows what this book is about, since it feels like half of the world has read this, or at least knows what it is about. this book follows 5 teenagers who have one thing in common, they all have to go to detention on the dame terrible day. but, each of them assumes that they all are going to walk out together, but when only 4 walk out alive, everyone becomes a suspect and every person has something to hide. i don’t have a review for this one, so check goodreads.
stalking jack the ripper by Kerri Maniscalo. this book is also another really famous book. but, this book is about Audrey Rose Wadsworth who wants to leave her privilaged life and work at her uncle’s laboratory to study the gruesome practices of forensic medicine. but, when someone savagely killed corpses come in, this makes Audrey Rose and her uncles student, Thomas Cresswell, to investigate these murders. I also don’t have a review for this, so check goodreads again.
behind closed door by B.A. Paris. this book is all about the well liked couple, Jack and Grace. Jack is a wealth and handsome lawyer, and Grace is a charm and elegance. but, you don’t want to like them, but everyone does. everyone wants to know Grace better, but Jack and Grace are never apart. some people think this is true love, but some people think it’s weird that Grace never answers the phone or goes out for coffee. or how she cooks so many elaborate meals, but is so slim, or how their are bars on the one bedroom windows. here is my full review for this book.
my lovely wife by Samantha Downing. this is all about a couple. a couple that has been together for 15 years, and then their romance has just gotten interesting. they are a normal couple, they have kids, moved to the suburbs, they have big dreams, and of course big secrets. they look normal, the good neighbors, the parents, and the parents of your friends kids, the people that you go to dinner with, but then their marriage is just getting interesting. And here is my full review for this book.
the couple next door by Shari Lapena. this book starts at a dinner party, Anne and Marco have a loving relationship and they have a beautiful baby, Cora. but, one night at a dinner party next door, they leave their baby at home. then a terrible crime is committed. so, when their baby goes missing, a bunch of secrets come up, leaving many different things change the way of the case. And i do have a full review for this book, and here it is.
anyway, that’s all for today’s post. i hope you enjoyed this post, and maybe read one or two of these. but, make sure you look up some of the triggers warnings, since mystery/thriller books always have a ton of them. so, check reviews on goodreads, and most of them i do have reviews for, so read those for the triggers.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking what i want to read this week, since it is Halloween week, and i plan to get to me in the spooky vibe. and, i just wanted to talk about what i plan on reading, and a little mini tbr for this week, since i feel like it might be fun.
after ever happy by Anna Todd. this book isn’t that spooky, and it doesn’t deal with ghosts or anything, but i started it on like Tuesday and i never finished it, so i just decided to put it on the list anyway. but, i guess this book is a little scary, since it is so bad. so, it kind of fits. i’m hoping that i finish this on Saturday so i stick to spooky books.
there’s someone inside your house by Stephanie Perkins. this book is going to be a reread, and i’m honestly so excited to reread it. i honestly remember loving it the first time, so i’m so hyped to read this again. but, at the same time i know my reading has changed a lot, so i’m also kinda scared.
cemetery boys by Adien Thomas. i’ve seen this book all over twitter and instagram, so i’m so excited to pick this up. but, i am kind of scared that i will not like this, since it is so freaking popular. but, this book has so much potential and it jut makes so so excited to get to reading it this week.
party games by RL Stine. this is kind of a fall back plan if i do finish there’s someone inside your house, so this book is kind of on the back burner. but, this book will be a reread, and i’m so excited to reread this, since i have so many amazing memorizes with this series.
i killed Zoe Spanos by Kit Frick. i am honestly so freaking excited for this book. i’ve so many amazing things with this book, so it just makes me more and more excited to read this. but, i think that this will be such a twisty book, so i can’t wait to see where this book goes.
anyway, that’s it for today. i honestly loved talking about my spooky tbr, even though this was kinda short and i barely talked about what the book was about. but, i’ll hopefully see you guys tomorrow for freak week day 2.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all the broken people by Leah Konen. i gave this book 3/5 stars. this book was honestly a pretty good book, and i really liked it overall, but i did have some issues with it, since i found it kind of predictable. but, this review is my 200th blog post, so happy 200th blog post anyway!
one of the things i wished was explored more, was the whole part about Lucy and Davis. and i honestly think that there was so many parts about how she would think Davis is right there, and how he could be watching her, but she never really explained in a lot of detail, like it was talked about here and there, but like i really wanted the whole story about what was happening and what else was happening with them.
but, i do think that this book was kind of the basic whodunnit in one of the those smaller towns. like with the whole running away from your abusive boyfriend. but i also feel like there isn’t that many surprises of this book, and nothing really forces you to question everything you know.
i do feel like the writing was decent. i kind of expected it, i mean i really liked her other book ‘ the romantics.’ but, i did kind of think this book also was kind of a surprise, since i didn’t know how well she could write a mystery/thriller. it definitely had that feel like it was a first book in this genre. but, i did expect it since this genre is super intimidating, but i’ve read worst so.
i also feel like there was almost TO many twists and turns in this book, like there was so many to keep track of. and i feel like this story looses so much since there was so many twists and turns that make it kind of hard to figure out what is actually happening in this book. like, it definitely a page tuner, since there was like a lot of drama going on. but, there was a whole lot of drinking win and making drunken choices that aren’t that good, and need a lot of common sense.
but, i also vaguely remember this quote about Lucy being like ” i’m not stupid. i know the truth.” and this quote is just so ironic since Lucy is honestly an idiot, so i thought it was just funny, since she was so stupid and dumb throughout the novel.
and i honestly feel like this is a theme in mystery/thriller books written by woman, especially more domestic ones. like, i feel like some of the most recent releases that are domestic thrillers, the main character that is a lady, is always a dumbass. and it’s so freaking annoying, cause i want them to be kick ass and shit, but then they are like so freaking helpless.
so, one of the main plot points of this book is Lucy moving to this new town and then her becoming best friends with Vera and John. like, i feel like this was so like insta-love, but not with romance, just like becoming best friends and this was kind of immature. like, since they just became friends so quick, and it got kind of weird and i didn’t really like it.
i also feel like Lucy had to make every single person that was older then her this parental figure in her life. like anyone that was older then her became this mom/dad figure in her life, and i honestly hated it so much. like, i wish she could just have got to be friends with someone, and not make them this parental figure. and this honestly got to be the same thing for Vera and John, and got annoying.
but, i wish the ending was grander, and it packed more of a punch. i feel like this ending was pretty much an ending like “well this happened, that happened, and then this happened.” and i like my endings for mystery/ thriller novels to have this dramatic ending and pack a massive punch in the gut. basically, i really like the endings that are in a good girls guide to murder, so all the dark and twisty. if you read those books you know what i’m talking about.
i do like my domestic thrillers and the thrillers that deal with relationships, especially marriage, but i do like my good old dating ones. but, i feel like in order to get a good plot and understanding about everything you need to know what their relationship was, and we didn’t get that whatsoever. like, we knew that Davis and Lucy were together for a long time, and that there was a lot of abuse, but that was it.
and on the other side, i want to know the real backstory about John and Vera. i mean, i think some dark crap went behind there, but i just want to know in detail about what happened to make them so uncomfortable that made them do this. and like i also want to read about their story and whatnot and everything about them.
Lucy- i honestly feel like i tried so hard to be sensitive to her situation and what was going to be happening in her life. and honestly all the bad events that are going on. but, i feel like she got to be so needy and her behavior just to be be annoying.
John- overall, i really liked him as a character. but, i think he had some issues, with like what he wanted to do and also just a couple little spoiler things which i won’t get into. but, i feel like he was so manipulative, and it was just so gross.
Vera- i hated this character so much. i mean, i feel like she was such a bad person on the inside, but was so fake on the outside for everyone else. i honestly hated her so much when i was reading this.
anyway, that’s it for today. i feel like this book had so much potential, but it was just kinda off. but, i did expect this to be way worst then it was, since i always get kinda scared when someone is used to writing in one genre, but jumps to another one. but, needless to say, i did enjoy reading it since this book has some dumb characters.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about without merit by Colleen Hoover. i gave this book 1/5 stars. before i start ranting more and more about this book, i just wanted to say that i do appreciate that her books deal with multiple social issues, and especially when the author is a bigger name, so i’ll give her that.
but, i just wanted to point out, that Colleen Hoover should never be able to pick out names for her characters ever again. so, our lovely cast of characters names are, merit, honor, luck, Utah, sagan, barnaby, moby and then two people named Victoria. and honestly, all the names were honestly so freaking bad, and the fact that there was two people named Victoria, which just made everything so much more confusing and it is so dumb that she couldn’t pick out another name.
i will give this book the fact that this book wasn’t that much romance heavy, but the part that this deals more with family history and mental health. which, was so cool and i really liked the fact that this all deals with this, and it wasn’t this heavy romance books. that the romance kind of got ditched at the side.
but, i thought it was so weird that Merit and Sagan were like this little couple and i just thought it was super weird. i mean i think that the whole beginning plot line was the fact that Sagan was with Merit’s twin sister, but here we are, Sagan is double dipping and getting with the sister, which was so terrible. and this just made me really uncomfortable. but, i guess there was this little part that Sagan and Honor weren’t really together and also still together, but i think that it is still all over the place.
this is kind of spoliery, but i just don’t understand how when Merit was stealing all these pills from her mother, and then taking the pills. but, i just think that it was super dumb that when she was stealing and her father found out about it, he pretty much was like “oh well everyone makes mistakes and this is just one of them. she’ll learn and grow up.” when your daughter is taking and using these pills, and it’s not like she was using her sisters homework to cheat on her homework.
but, when you are writing a book you most likely let your family and friends read your book, and also you might get some beta readers. but, when it goes out to a publisher and they buy it, they of course read your book and then have multiple other people read it. and also, if you’re a big author like Hoover, you of course have editors and agents and whoever else. so, with all these people reading this book before it gets published, i have no clue how nobody say the homophobia, biphobia, ableism, and slut shaming in this book. like, i don’t know how people can just not notice this. so, in the next couple paragraphs i’m going to be putting the quotes in italic, and then my thoughts in a font like this.
“maybe he couldn’t finish with me because he prefers dick. Utah’s dick at least.” so, basically this part, which i didn’t really hear when i was reading, but i do remember something similar and i found this on goodreads and i just want to say something about it. but, this whole scene is like an outing of someone who was gay, which is honestly so messed up and i just wanted to put my opinion in on it.
“you open your legs to him anytime he wants.” so, this whole phrase is all about how this sick woman, who is one of the side characters that is really prominent in the story. but, this whole scene is basically talking about this sick woman having sex with someone else. and honestly this whole scene, but this sentence really stuck out to me as this scene since it was so slut shaming, and it just annoyed me.
“It’s probably the whole gay thing you’re experimenting with. It’s making you sentimental.” He glances back at me and narrows his eyes. “You can’t make gay jokes, Merit. You aren’t gay.” “Does being gay make you the gay authority on who can or can’t tell gay jokes?” “I’m not gay, either,” he says. “Could have fooled me.” I laugh. “If you don’t think you’re gay, you’re sexually confused.” okay, so this scene took me like 5 times to write it out, word for word, but this whole scene yet again rubbed me the wrong way. and for context, this whole part is about the male character who is bisexual/pansexual/gay. i’ve seen a lot of people just say that he is bisexual, but i just don’t want to assume anything.
and with everything that happens in this story, i feel like everyone on goodreads and on youtube say that they feel bad for Merit, who said everything that was shown above. and like everything that happens just doesn’t make me feel bad for her, no matter on what mental illness had, since she was just so homophobic. and like i have dealt and still deal with it, but i do think that having depression doesn’t make me act like a literal dumbass.
i generally speaking in books, especially romance books, like the whole sex plot line, and the characters having sex. but, this book made me so freaking uncomfortable in this one sex scene in this book. basically, Merit approaches her step mothers brother about having sex with her since she is a virgin. so, technically he is like her step uncle, if that’s even a thing. and like from what i remember, i believe they had some type of sex, and this whole exchange just made me feel uncomfortable.
but, i also think that this book was a massive pity party at a lot of times. since, there was paragraphs and paragraphs about how she is in love with this boy and has this massive crush on him, but she can never ever have him. like, i can deal with this when it’s a series like the kingdom keepers, where Finn kinda thinks this about Charlie, but it’s like here and there, and only when Amanda or Philby brings it up. where, this book is whenever they talk about a man or literally anybody.
and i feel like Merit was a complete idiot, and it just got so annoying. like, for me i thought that when Merit let someone get in her car, who just happened to be Luck, just gave me such a bad vibe. like, has this chick seriously never seen an episode of SVU, blue bloods, chicago pd, or even criminal minds. she literally just lets this strange man get in her car when he cause be a serial killer or even a stalker, but she just gives him a ride.
Merit- this character was one of the most annoying characters in a Colleen Hoover book. like i honestly feel like a lot of teenagers in books, especially those ‘new adult’ books, have a lot of talk about sex, and even some YA books. but, i feel like this one just took it to the extreme. and like this character is roughly 17, and that she is like a minor, but like super sexualized in my mind. and i also found this character was such a idiot
Honor- she was kind of an irritating character. and i feel like she was one of those mean girl characters, and was such a bitch to everyone, and like i couldn’t vibe with her in this book. i also thought that it was so weird for having this ‘kink’ for dying men and really like getting with this.
Utah- i feel like he was one of the grosses characters in this book. i feel like he is one of those characters that’s so smart, which makes him come off as so annoying. and i also think he is one of those characters that give gay males a bad wrap in books and movies, since he was just such a bad character.
also, here’s all my issues with this book and some that i just don’t want to talk about
the way Sagan and Merit met was just so creepy. why would you just go up to your ‘girlfriend’ and just kiss them out of the blue? like seriously just walk up and like make out with her.
Honor not telling Merit that she is with Sagan.
Honor’s big obsession with dying guys, and that she really liked dating men that are dying.
Merit pressuring her STEP UNCLE OF ALL PEOPLE to have sex with her.
Luck and Utah having sex and then they come to realize that Utah is gay but he ‘experiments’ on Merit, mind you she’s a CHILD, just so he can see if he is into girls. which is just so disturbing.
all the incest that is in this book.
UTAH GETTING FORGIVEN BY EVERYONE
Merit’s suicide attempt in this book and also the whole bad rep for depression and suicide.
the fact that Luck tracks every single person that he has sex with. like every single person, the date, how good they were at having sex, and when they had sex.
finds out my parents are having an affair with each other, so i’m going to pop some illegal drugs. but, i don’t get suicidal, i just get to become a teenager.
Sagan getting his tattoos done at home and also getting a tattoo of the place he and Merit made out and where he cheated on his girlfriend at.
you’re not gay, just sexually confused.
grave digging
the dog dying.
the gay character sexually assault his sister to make himself straight, and also non consensual kissing.
trigger warnings- incest, rape, homophobia
anyway, that’s all for today! this blog post is honestly all over the place, and is honestly a hot mess. but, in the same way i’m super proud of it, since i think it was just so good. but, i hope you still enjoyed this blog post!
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about you had me at hola by Alexis Daria. i gave this book 2/5 stars. i honestly found this book so freaking boring, and i honestly hated this book so much and it was just so slow. and honestly i could just not get with this book, but there was some issues that just annoyed me.
my biggest issue with this book is Jasmine’s little breakdown at the end of the book. so, basically she starts having this sexual relationship with the main male characters (obviously,) and then she threatens to quit this show. which, up close does not seem that bad. but, all the actors, writers, and producers and literally everyone have Mexican descent. which, is something that is so huge, and something you don’t see everyday in Hollywood. and it just pissed me off so much that she just threated to quit this job, which is so amazing for Hollywood, and something that put so many people into these jobs.
i also hated the whole talk about The Incident, but when they talked about it, it was not talked about like we knew what it was. but, it was this huge thing in the start of the book, and this always gets talked about 24/7. but , for most of the book they never had what the actual incident was, but that i was this really bad thing. so, honestly that got on my nerves after a while.
but, this book does give me major Jane the Virgin, and that’s something that i never really liked that show, but if you’re one of those major fans of that show. you will 100% like this book, even though it doesn’t really deal with an unneeded child.
this book could have only gotten 1 star, and i honestly was leading more to one star, but then i decided to give it two because of the rep and the amazing cover. i honestly feel like one if the reasons that i hated it because the writing was just so choppy and i just thought the dialogue felt so unnatural, which just got so annoying. like i feel like everything was just so annoying, since the writing is like one of the biggest parts about story, and it just didn’t hit well with me.
as much as i loved all the Latinx rep throughout the story, the whole ‘Carmen in Charge’ parts in this story was so boring. like anyway, these parts were so small, and they literally did nothing in the book, just to get this book longer, honestly, but i guess everyone has a different oppion on this, but i still do like the whole rep of this book, and we’ve probably wouldn’t get the rep otherwise though.
but, this book had zero chemistry and also the romance was so unbelievable. like these characters never interacted, and they never really got together, but apparently they did 24/7. and also the fact that they had no chemistry, and they barely interact besides work, but we are supposed to believe that they are having sex every single day? like honestly that seems like they didn’t ever interact, and they had like 3 conversations between the two of them.
and i feel like a lot of my issues with this book with this was the romance, and another part of this was the whole “leading lady” crap all the time. and like she was so for love, but then also so against it at the same time. and this honestly just didn’t work with all of the self confidence and that it’s okay to be alone and you don’t need a man to be happy and give your life worthwhile.
and more about how stupid these characters are, it really annoyed me that these characters were acting like literal children all the time. for reference, Ashton was almost 40 and Jasmine was roughly 32 years old, maybe 30, but you still get the point. but, they still literally acted like children, not even like teenagers, just children. and it got so freaking annoying in this romance novel.
i didn’t really care that much for the sex scenes in this book. to me, i think that it was one of the better sex scenes, but it just felt really off for me, and i think that they just we’re that well and i never found them good like Jasmine Gulliroy or even Christina Lauren. but, i just did want to point out that i did think it was kinda cool that they did state that they used a condom and also lube, which they like never use in romance books.
on a positive note, i really liked the whole family dynamic between Jasmine and her cousins. i honestly loved that we got to see her and her cousins together and how they all acted together and then also how they can act around each other and then also how they boast each other up about everything.
on the other hand about the family in Jasmine’s family, i really didn’t care for her grandmother. i found that more on Jasmine’s side, she kind of got closer and really used Ashton so she can make her grandmother happy. and i also didn’t really like how Jasmine’s grandma’s ‘hall pass’ was Ashton, even though Ashton and Jasmine were together.
Ashton- honestly, were do i start with this character? he was honestly one of the worst love interest in adult romances, but i honestly thought that his behavior towards the end was just so terrible. and honestly those scenes are like cemented in my brain for my dislike for him. and i honestly feel like he was way to guarded for me to really like him and to have him be this perfect love interest.
Jasmine- i really liked how he wore her heart on her sleeve and that her main goal was just to be loved by someone else. and i really liked that she was still very burned by a pervious relationship, but she still wanted to open her heart for Ashton or whoever else.
anyway, that’s all for today! this was honestly a really long blog post, which is something i didn’t really plan for, but i honestly just kept rambling on and on. but, i still hope you enjoy this blog post and it wasn’t all over the place.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about get a life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hilbert. i gave this book 4/5 stars. i honestly really liked this book, but there was a couple issues with this book i did pick up on when i was listening to it. but, i still did like this book, so it wasn’t a total lost.
one of my biggest issues with this book, and this part is honestly a good amount of the book, but it was that fat black girls with chronic pain can’t do this and have that big of an life. this could have just been me that picked up on this, and i completely believe the author had good intentions. and i feel like the list part just does not help this case whatsoever. but, i feel like with this major part with the chronic pain part, it came off as something that she can’t and shouldn’t do this. and if you read this book, you know i’m kind of talking about the whole cat part. and Red’s first reaction is like “you did what? you shouldn’t do things like this.” and honestly we all know if she was a skinny blonde white girl, it would have probably not have come off this way and wouldn’t get this much of this reaction.
but, i also deal with chronic pain, but i feel like chucks of this book was just a massive pity party. and i’m not trying to start some Rick Riordan crap, but i do think that some parts we’re just so questionable. to me, i feel like there was parts when she was doing something that a normal 20 something would do, she would just get look down at and got treated like she was a toddler. and i know how bad chronic pain could be, but i do think that it was just such a pity party from her family, and especially with the car crash. and i’ll talk more about her family later, since they are such a big part.
with all that being said, i do wish there was more day to day life with her and her chronic pain. like, there was some day to day life, but i feel like her pain was a -3,000,000 and then the next day it would be 3,000,000/10 pain. which, just got to be annoying since like i wanted to see the 5/10 pain. like i do really like the rep, but also i didn’t really care for the like non existent pain on some days.
i also really liked the fact that Red was recovering from an abusive relationship. and, i just thought this was so cool since we normally get it the other way around, the woman is always recovering, or the man in the relationship is the abusive one in the relationship. and i feel like it was just so cool to see Red deal with all of his struggles, and how he is overcoming it. and honestly, to me i think that more abusive and toxic relationships need to be talked about more in chick lit, and not just Colleen Hoover, who has her own type of issues.
on a more negative note, i think the book was TO sweet. like i think the banter between Red and Chloe was just so sweet and honestly got kind go Lifetime movie. but, if you really like things like this, this would probably be your book, but for someone who doesn’t really care for it, it just got annoying. since there was like paragraphs and paragraphs about how in love they were and how much they cannot live with out each other. and honestly i was like listening, but like not listening at the same time. and honestly this whole part just seem to be very like generic and the whole thing was like from a YA novel. and that the whole teenage crap in those cheesy YA novels.
i do think that Hibbert’s writing was still very great and was just such an amazing read. and it really made the characters so amazing. and i feel like the cheesy crap didn’t really go out into the regular paragraphs were like so amazing and i honestly loved the general writing since it was just so amazing, and it was so great to listen to.
but, i really wanted to give this book 5 stars, even though i had some issues, but the real reason was that there was no real emotional connection and reaction from me. and honestly, i know of expected the whole really happy, butterflies, and like just really giddy if that makes sense. and i honestly could not get that from here. and it wasn’t that they didn’t have chemistry or anything, it just fell off for me.
and i know sex scenes are a really big thing in adult romances, and adult books in general. and i found the sex scenes were decent, and i thought they were decent, and that they weren’t crap like some of them are. and i just feel like the scenes with Red were kind of weird, since i really liked him, but also i thought he was like such a dick. and i don’t know, i feel like these things were kind of weird.
on a more positive note, i thought it was so cool how their was so much emotional depth and also so much vulnerability between not just Chloe, but also Red. and i feel like since this was more of a ‘heavy’ rom com, so i thought it was honestly so great and i just loved how this all was written and that it wasn’t just the female character.
i also really nice how the book ended. most romance books end in like a proposal, marriage, or even baby. but this book it was just like that were the couple, and didn’t have this perfect ending, which i also loved so much in this book.
Red- i really like him till that one masturbation scene, and that literally just turned me off from him, since it was like so weird, and i just hated it so much, since it made me so freaking uncomfortable. but, for all my Schitt’s Creeks fans that are reading this, i did completely think of him looking like Mutt, which was just super cool.
Chloe- i feel like i already talked about her a ton, so i don’t really know what other insight i can give you about her. but, i also wanted to say that i feel like we knew about her, but at the same time we literally knew nothing about her besides her job and her pain.
anyway, that’s all for today! i really enjoyed this book, and i honestly cannot wait to get into the second book, whenever that might be. but, i honestly hope the second book is so good, and maybe a little bit better than this one.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all my thoughts and opinions about midnight sun by Stephanie Meyer. i gave this book 5/5 stars. look, this book completely did not deserve 5 stars, but i was reading this when i was so freaking sick, that i like have no clue what happened in this book and also what i would give this book if i read it not sick. so, i might give this book another go around when i feel amazing.
i’m going to sound so stupid when i say this, but they used so many big words. and not your basic big words, it was this old and like words, i mean it makes sense since Edward was born way back in the day. but, with me being sick, and like not thinking straight, just like didn’t help with anything. this is just a side note, but Eddie said like ‘juxtaposition” like 50 times.
i’m not really sure if this is like a major thing in twilight, but it probably is, but i thought it was kind of funny how Edward always talked about how Bella isn’t like other girls. like, it was just so stupid, that it got really funny. but, it did get on my nerves that Edward wouldn’t just say “Bella isn’t like other girls,” he was have to say it in these like super philosophical ways, and wouldn’t just like spell it out.
i honestly do not have an issue with the stalking and the creepy relationship, aka how people say it was pedophilic. since, Eddie wasn’t like just having those feelings, like Bella was clearly having them too, so i just didn’t find it that terrible. and it wasn’t like Edward was forcing himself on her. and to me, i didn’t find this as toxic as like call me by your name, and also Eddie and Bella are like in love and it’s not just about sex.
on the other note, i’m not a religious person whatsoever, like i’ve always went to catholic school, and i still go to one. and like i just never really felt the need to go to that much church, since most of them are like super rude to lgbtq+ people and also so racists, i just don’t like going. but, from my limit knowledge of this religious stuff, i do think it was kind of cool how Meyer was able to pull off the whole good vs evil or light vs dark, which ever way you want to approach it.
to me, i really like the whole way we got to see everything that Edward was feeling and everything that was happening to him. like, we got to see the anxiety, the part when he was the most unhappy, and then when he was the most happy. and also the fact that we got to see Edward falling in love, and falling into this like pure state of happiest.
on a more positive note, i found that Bella wasn’t as annoying in this book as she was in the original book. it probably was because it wasn’t in hr point of view, but i honestly found it that she was so chill. and i also thought she acted like a little bit of a normal teenager, besides the fact that she was in love with a vampire.
i also think that in twilight and even life and death have so many unanswered questions about Edward, and pretty much a lot about all the vampires in general. and, in this book we get like a bunch of all these unanswered questions, and they finally got all these questions answers and also the truth about them. and like in twilight we got to see Edward and Bella fall in love so quick, and like we don’t get to much elaboration about it, and now in here we got a little bit of more explanation on everything.
but, i was also pretty upset that we didn’t get to see the whole Italian food scene. which, honestly is like so disappointing, since that literally is the best scene in the world. but, i think that definitely one of the more cheesy scenes, so if this book wants to be more serious, it is untestable why it wasn’t in here. and also if they want to cater to the more adult audience, since most of the original fans would be teenagers now. but, this scene very well could have happened, but i literally just completely forgot or when i was high off couch medicine.
to me, i thought the whole part about seeing what everyone was thinking. like to me i thought it was added so much to the story, and also the fact that it was just so cool to see what Mike was thinking about Bella and how much he likes her and whatnot. and, i think it was so cool to see who hated who or who loved who. and also the whole mindreading parts just showed all the ins and outs of each character.
but, i do think it was so cool to see what the Cullen’s were doing when Alice, Jasper, and Bella were doing in Phoenix. and, this is honestly something that i love in this book and all the little insights about what was happening. but, i honestly really loved this, and just the whole plot with them trying to keep everyone safe.
but, i honestly loved Emmett and Edward together and their little friendship/ bromance. and i think that their friendship was just so pure and so sweet. and honestly Emmett saw the things that the rest of the Cullen’s didn’t really see about Edward and Bella together, and Emmett always saw and understand both of the point of views, the Cullen’s and just Edwards. i never really liked Emmett that much, like he was probably my second least favorite Cullen, but this book just made me like him so much more and he was so sweet in here.
on a completely different note, i really hope Meyer writes all the books in Edward’s perspective. like this book was just so cool, and it just added so much to the story, and it just made everything make so much more sense. and two, new moon would be so cool to see Edward running after Victoria and loosing her in Brazil, and then also the whole wedding and then when Bella dies, it just sounds so amazing, and i would kill someone to read it. (get that terrible pun??)
honestly, we aren’t vampires, and we probably never will be, so nothing we do can be perfect. so, honestly this book never would have been perfect. and yeah, this book was so choppy, but also a decent book for anyone that liked and read the original books. and this book is honestly one of those books that we just need to read in a pandemic, since it is just so freaking trashy, and honestly we need that so much.
also, i just wanted to say, if you read or bought this book, or hell even liked and read the original books and movies or bought the merch, make sure you check out and donate to the real Quileute Tribe since they literally have gotten shit money wise, from movie and book company, since they were used in this. and also the fact that this Tribe, who helped bring some of the OG twilight books. and they also are trying to move some of their buildings and homes to high ground, since they are in tsunami zone. so, if you are interested in donating, here’s the link for the place to donate. https://mthg.org/
anyway, that’s it for today! i hoped you enjoyed this blog a little bit, and understood this hotmess even a little bit. but, i’m sorry if some of the info is wrong, since i was so sick when i read this, so most of this book does not make sense. but, i hope this is still a little bit readable.
hello everyone! today i am going to be doing the Addams family book tag. i honestly love this movie series so freaking much, so i am honestly so excited to for this blog post, and just talking about this movie with somewhat of a bookish element. but, i do believe that i already did this blog post, but i honestly have no clue if i even did.
MORTICIA ADDAMS, THE MOTHER AND A WITCH. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WITCH BOOK?
the sweep series by Cate Tiernan. this is honestly my favorite book series about witches, and this book series also is like the only books that features witches. but, i could honestly never recommend this book series enough, and i just love this series so freaking much. fun fact time, this is one of my first book series i really read, besides fear street and twilight, so this has such a special place in my heart.
GOMEZ ADDAMS IS A LOVING FATHER. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE FICTIONAL DAD?
Charlie Swan from the twilight saga by Stephanie Meyer. honestly, i feel like this guy is one the only dads in YA books that is already there for their child, and just always cares for them. and personally, i think so many dads are just like MIA and when they are there, they are completely never in their child’s life. and yeah, in the start he wasn’t always there, but when the books actually take place, he is always their for Bella.
UNCLE FESTER ADDAMS CAN GENERATE ELECTRICITY. WHAT BOOKS MAKE YOU LIGHT UP SO MUCH YOU CANNOT STOP TALKING ABOUT IT.
the kingdom keepers series by Ridley Person. this is my all time favorite series, and i always talk about this book on every single form of social media i have, and everyone is probably so sick of all my talking. but, this series just makes me so freaking happy, and honestly liking this series is my only personality trait.
WEDNESDAY ADDAMS IS OBSESSED WITH DEATH. IF YOU COULD HAVE KILLED OFF A CHARACTER IN ANY BOOK, WHO WOULD IT HAVE BEEN?
Constance from Cinderella is dead by Kalynn Bayron. i honestly feel like this whole book is so dark, and i just wish Bayron would have killed her off in the end of the book. to me, i feel like the ending was just so bad, and i think it really needed a kick or something. and as much as i love her character, i just wanted drama and spice, i just wanted something to happen.
PUGSLEY ADDAMS HAS A VICIOUS NATURE AND PLAYS NASTY PRANKS ON EVERYONE. WHO IS YOUR FAVORITE VILLAIN?
Cardan from the cruel prince series by Holly Jackson. this is honestly the most basic answer in the YA book world, and honestly the most basic thing i could have picked. but, i honestly loved this villain so much, and i feel like he is such a cruel and wicked person, i just like him so freaking much.
LURCH IS BASED ON FRANKENSTEIN AND A ZOMBIE. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ADAPTATION OF A STORY?
cinderella is dead by Kalynn Bayron. i do not read that many adaptations whatsoever, and this is the most recent ones i read, so we’ll just go with it. even though this book did have some flaws, but i still loved this one so much. and honestly this book will probably make it on my favorite book of the year list, so i honestly had to pick this and just keep raving about it.
GRANDMAMA IS AN OLD CLASSIC WITCH? WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE OLD CLASSIC HORROR BOOK?
i’m going to skip this question, since i literally do not read classics, especially horror for the life of me.
anyway, that’s it for today! i honestly loved this talking about these books, and just talking about one of my favorite movies. but, i do hope you enjoy this blog post, and had somewhat amount of fun reading me to talk about these different books.
