making friends with Alice Dyson review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about making friends with Alice Dyson by Poppy Nwous. i gave this book 1/5 stars, and this book does come out today, September 15th. honestly, i just found this whole book pretty boring, and i didn’t really care for most of the plot.

the main like ‘plot’ of this book is like Alice and this boy Teddy, have this massive scandal. and your mind when you read the word ‘scandal’ you probably thought of a murder or hell even a sex tape. i personally thought it was a sex tape because of the way that they where talking about this book. but, no the scandal in this book was not a murder or even a sex tape, it was are main characters Alice and Teddy where dancing in the rain. yes, the big scandal in the school is they where dancing in the god damn rain. so, this whole plot just annoyed the hell out of me, since it wasn’t like a real scandal, just they where honestly insane.

i also found Alice SO annoying. like not the basic YA annoying character, she was honestly so freaking annoying. like she had one friend, which isn’t a problem, but she never left this little bubble with her friend, who i think her name is Maya, and then when Maya tries to get more friends and branch out, are little Alice literally freaks out and cries for days. and like she did more crap, that just got so annoying more and more.

another thing about Alice that was so annoying includes her being a baby 24/7 and she is literally wrapped around her mom’s finger. and i get being friends with your mom and whatnot, but damn. Alice literally told her mom everything, like literally everything. so, there’s this scene where Alice wants to go to the beach with Teddy, Maya, and also Maya’s boyfriend, and she literally has to stand there and tell her mom literally everything she is going to do and what she is going to wear and also who she is going to be with. and i honestly just found this so over the top and so annoying.

i’m not really sure if this will make sense whatsoever. but, this whole book reads like a Wattpad book. and like i don’t really mean like in a nice way, cause there are some good ones on Wattpad, i’m talking about the books like after and whatnot. but, i do feel like a lot of the plot of this book was non existent, like a good amount of Wattpad books, if that makes any sense.

and honestly, i feel like there was somewhat of a plot in the authors mind, but when i read this shit show, i couldn’t find a plot whatsoever. i mean, i feel like the basic plot is Alice and Teddy dancing in the rain, but it honestly still didn’t make any sense, since they are literally school functions for this. but, i honestly know that this whole review is going in circles, i’m aware, but i feel like this whole book went in circles, sot this is the easiest way to talk about everything.

i also feel like this book was all about school and the struggles of high school, but i feel like most of this book was ALL in the school. and i know that this book was about school and whatnot, but there should still be something about them at home, or just like there other life when they wren’t in school and like there home life or whatnot.

but, i honestly feel like this happens in a lot of books, especially romance books, but i feel like after 100 pages it just did not make any sense. like, it made a decent amount of sense, to some degree, but then once it hit 100 all hell broken loose. and like this is a really normal thing, but i feel like it was a big enough thing to pick out in this book, that it just got annoying.

i also found that the whole romance was pretty toxic. i mean, like i don’t doubt that they like each other and whatnot, but they are also just like that high school couple that doesn’t know what they are doing, but they have every single rumor about them, if that makes any sense. but, i do think that they have kinda a hot mess of a couple.

Alice- i feel like this girl acted like a child, and her personality couldn’t fix anything, since she had literally none. and i mean she was your basic good girl main character that is innocent and everything, which is just annoying.

Teddy- i honestly found this guy a complete dick. i mean, for me i think that all he did was get told he was a bad boy, and then went to go beat people up. and he was that whole “i’m so misunderstood,” when he wasn’t that misunderstood.

anyway, that’s it for today. even though i wasn’t the biggest fan of this book, but i’m still kinda happy that i did get the chance to read this book. thank you so much Netgalley for this arc!

Beach read review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about beach read by Emily Henry. i gave this book 4/5 stars. this was honestly a pretty decent book, and i feel like this story was so amazing, and it was just such a cute book. and i feel like the whole plot was just so cute, and the romance was so spot on.

one reason why i didn’t gave this book 5/5 stars, was how we always went back on these different things that happened in her life. so for example, we went on and on and on about how January’s father cheated, and we would move forward with the plot a little bit, but then it would go right back to, “oh so did you know that my dad cheated on my mom?” and it just got to be annoying for me, as a reader. it truly does suck that her dad cheated, but we don’t need to be reminded of that every single minute in this book.

but, i also think that this book needed a ton more explanation about different things. for example, there was all this discussion about how different family issues went down and whatnot. this is kinda spoliery but, it does happen in the first 20 pages of the book, but there was all this talk about January’s mom and how she had cancer, and they would be like “oh yeah she’s dead, but then they would go back and make comments about how she is still alive.” and that whole thing just did not make sense to me, and it wasn’t explained that she had cancer multiple times, and it came back and then she was in recovery and wasn’t dead.

also, this might just be me, but i realized that January cried so much. literally like you can look at her funny and she would start to cry her eyes out, and it was so annoying. i mean, i don’t mind in a book if someone cries here and there, but in this she just did it an insane amount, that it just got me pissed me off because it got to be so much crying. and i’m not saving she can’t feel emotion cause her dad cheated and died, but it was just so much crying about the simplest thing, and god was it annoying.

this is also something i didn’t like that much, but i feel like January did do a lot of complaining about how she didn’t have that much money, and how she was going to stop eating so much, and a bunch of other crap like that. but, it honestly got on my last nerve since if you where in need of money that bad, go work some place in the town, or even just write your damn book.

i also thought this book was pretty cute on how Gus was always like in love with her. i mean it was pretty cute, and i thought it was super cute on how he was always like in love with her, even though he did the typical crap that he bullied her and whatnot. but, i do feel like he was a good guy and whatnot to January.

this book was also so sarcastic and just super witty. i thought it was just so sarcastic, but not in like a bad way or just like an annoying way. this was just one of those funny books that are actually funny, but also completely heartbreaking in the same way. and i just think this was just such a good book, and it just worked so well together.

but, this was also such a well thought out book. like, everything was just so fleshed out with the plot and where everything that it was going to go out. and this was just very well planned, and not like a hot mess like some romance books happen to be. and like i think this was just so sweet, and it worked together so well.

this was also one of those stereotypical traditionally published romance book. it was still really good, but it was also so cookie cutter in away. like i know that most adult romances are the same thing, but damn this one was so cookie cutter, and just like all of the plots and cliches and tropes pushed into this book. it was kinda crazy and very almost annoying, since it was just so cliche.

Gus– i honestly had a love hate relationship with this guy. like one minute i thought he was a decent guy, and that he had good morals and whatnot, but he was kinda a dick throughout the story. all he did was almost belittle January and just like made sure they know what he was like the lead man. but, i also feel like he did love January when they eventually got together.

January- i honestly think she was a decent character, but she also was super whiny about everything, which got annoying really quick. and, i honestly felt no chemistry between her and Gus, since she had like a crush but that was honestly it. and it was just insane to me since she was more concerned about money then pretty much anything else.

anyway, that’s all for today. this was honestly a pretty good book, even though this review was a lot more negativity, then things that are positive aspects and things that i do enjoy.

a song below water review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about a song below water by Bethany C Morrow. i gave this book 2/5 stars. overall, i think that this book was a decent book, but it did have some issues, and i didn’t really understand most of it, but i still enjoyed it.

my biggest issue with this is that it does not make sense in my mind. i think that there was all of this stuff in this book that i couldn’t comprehended. i mean, i feel like this story would have been so much better if this book just focused on the girls being sirens and trying to deal with it. but, this book focused on the whole plot of the sirens and then them being teenagers and whatnot. and i feel like this just made the plot more and more confusing and just didn’t sit well with me.

but, i do feel like this whole plot with the Black Lives Matter plot was good, but i do feel like that does stick up for what is happening in 2020, but i still feel like everything that happened plot wise, it just was so confusing and it didn’t make sense with what happened with the youtuber and then what happened in the forest. but, it probably is just me with everything being so confusing.

but, i don’t really understand the whole plot with Tavia being so obsessed with this Youtuber. i mean, i think that it is cool that she is into youtube and has actual interests that’s not books or writing, but, it still is creative and cool. but, she was so obsessed with this youtuber, it just made me so uncomfortable. so for example, she was so in like obsessed, I feel like it was more then just like a little crush and that is something that is healthy for kids, it was like to the next level and how she acted around her and what she thought about her.

if you are looking for a more “magical” version of The Hate U Give, this definitely is the book for you. it dealt with so many important topics, and it just worked. and that everything fit to some degree. so, some of the main thing that happened in this book was racism, social justice, and also current politics. and everything is just so well crafted, with also a whole magical element.

with the magical element being the main thing for this plot point, and the real plot point in this story, it wasn’t developed and really explained in away that teenagers will understand. i feel like the whole magic system was just a hot mess and it was just like all over the place. and like we get told over and over again about what happens with the sirens, but i feel like how being a siren actually works, and how you become one.

but, i really wish the mermaid and siren part would just have been cut out, and it just dealt with the struggles of being a Black teenage girl and all the hard things that go on. but, the mermaids really just made everything a hot mess, and it just like took so much away from the plot. and i think it was just taking so much away from the story and how powerful this story can be.

i also feel like the author didn’t really write the characters good. Tavia and Effie where very shallow, and i didn’t feel anything to them. i feel like we never really got to much on their personalty, or things that they like interest wise. but, we also didn’t get to much on what they looked like and other basic things i would like to know about the characters i read about.

i honestly feel like there is no differences then the two voices. i mean, i was so confused with who was talking and what they where talking about, cause they where SO similar, with the narrators voice, and also the fact that they where just so similar, personality wise and whatnot. and like i’m not blaming this on the narrator whatsoever, cause it’s not their fault, it’s more of the author job to make the characters voice more different and profound.

going back to talking about sirens, sprites, gargoyles and also the ekolos, i feel like we got no explanation on what they are whatsoever. like i had no clue what spirtes where and also what the real backstory behind them, besides what we hear from different tv shows and movies and books. and i honestly had to google what it means, which was so annoying.

anyway, that’s all for today. i honestly had no clue what happened in this book, and what anything meant, and everything that happened in this book. but, i feel like this whole story was honestly a hot mess, and i feel like everything made no sense whatsoever.

waiting for Tom Hanks review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about waiting for Tom Hanks by Kerry Winfrey. i gave this book 2/5 stars. i did enjoy this book, but i do feel like this book was really corny, and it wasn’t the best thing in the world and it was just really slow and there wasn’t that much romance within the book.

honestly, to me i feel like the book didn’t have that much romance, and especially chemistry in the book. i feel like the Annie was like in love and was like “omg he’s so hot and i love him so much.” but, Drew never really had the same feelings, in my mind. and i don’t know if that is just me, i just never felt the chemistry between the two characters.

i also thought that it was SO weird that they where like “Tom Hanks this and Tom Hanks that.” and i thought it just didn’t make sense, and i thought the whole thing was kinda made me uncomfortable. i mean, the whole book just revolves around Annie just in love with Tom Hanks and how she like loves him and whatever.

along with the whole Tom Hanks crap, i also thought it was so annoying that they where always talking about Nora Ephron. i mean it is just so annoying, and like i don’t care that she was probably in a romance movie, but i still think it was crazy and like she was brought up like every freaking page, and it was so annoying.

talking about Annie more, but i thought it was kinda weird how she wrote this whole book about her best friend and the best friends boss. i mean, think it was just so weird that the author decided to do this. like if i was Chloe, i would be honestly so pissed off, and i was just so mad and it wasn’t even about me. and like granted i think the names where change of names, but still it just screams that the book was about Nick and Chloe.

granted, i’m not in movies, and i don’t work in Hollywood, but i’ve listened to actors talk about making movies and tv shows. so, the main thing that really stuck out to me was how they said that to make this movie it took roughly 2 weeks. which, isn’t a enough time to make a movie. like multiple people have said that it takes months, and at the least 3, but it is always more just to film the movie.

i also found it so weird how everything was just so perfect. i mean i think it was really weird and annoying, and i feel like it was just so crazy. so for example, Annie’s uncle was college roommates with the directors in college, which lead her to get a job in the movie, and also how she got to live with the best friend and multiple other things, and i just thought it was kinda weird how everything was so perfect.

this is going to be a spoiler and whatnot, so skip this part if you didn’t read the book. with this spoiler, i wanted to big up this stupid plot point that made me so mad, and still does to this day. and this is the amazing and smart plot point, where Annie takes a photo of Drew naked, and thinks she is sending this to Chloe, but actually sends this to a news station. if matters can’t get much worst, it freaking does. she makes this comment about how big his dick is.

okay, but this just made me hella uncomforable, and it literally just didn’t make sense to me. i mean, why for 1. why would you send ANYONE a photo of your partner naked to your best friend. and 2. why would you make a comment on his dick size? i think it was just so weird. and like what if the role was reversed? like what if Drew took a photo of Annie naked and then made a comment on her boobs or butt and how big it is and is going to send it to his friends? it just made me uncomfortable and it just didn’t made sense to me.

Annie- this character annoyed the hell out of me. i mean, i already talked about my issues with her enough, so i’m not going to reword it all. but, i feel like she was just so cling and wouldn’t grow up and really adult and wouldn’t live in the reword that like she should as 25-31 years old.

Drew- i feel like he was kinda a weird character. for one minute i was like “i really like him as a character and i feel like he is a good guy/love interest.” but then the next i’m like “i feel like he’s not a good guy, and that he doesn’t really care and love Annie.” and i mean, he has so much potential, but i do not care about this series enough to read the second book to see it.

anyway, that is all for today. i really hated this book, and it just didn’t make that much sense to me, with all this crap that went on. but, i also feel like this whole book needed so much more editing and just so much TLC with thinking how some of this crap might play out to someone.

September tbr

hello everyone! today i am going to be doing my september tbr, this is honestly going to be an insane month, since i have so many read a thons that i want to do, but also that i wish i could participate in, but i honestly don’t have to time to. and also, sorry this post is so late, and then also i’m super sick so there might be some spelling and grammatical errors.

MONSTER A THON TEAM HAUNT-

A BOOK BY A BLACK OR INDIGENOUS AUTHOR-

cinderella is dead by Kalynn Bayron. i know this book has been on more then one tbr, but i am so determined to read this book this month. but, i still think this book sounds so amazing with an LGBTQ+ cinderella version. and i think it is just so cool, and i can’t wait to get into this.

FRIEND CHOOSES YOUR READ-

safe place by Anna Downes. just like cinderella is dead, this has been on my tbr for years. and honestly i’m so excited for this one and to get into it. but, i do think this sounds kinda weird, but that is also the reason why i want to pick this one up for this read a thon.

A MYSTERY BOOK-

his wife’s sister by A.J. Wills. honestly, i think that this sounds pretty cool. but, i still am kinda scared to get into this, even though i think this sounds kinda like a basic thriller plot. but, i think that it is really cool, and also really fun to learn about the sister and how everything is going wrong and whatnot.

A GOOD LOOKING COVER-

hidden bones by Vivian Barz. i honestly think that this book sounds kinda cool, but this is also the second book in a series, so i honestly am kinda scared to get into it, so if i don’t understand what that is happening. but, i still think that this would be kinda cool, even if i don’t understand it completely.

LGBTQ+ READ A THON-

M/F LGBTQ+ ROMANCE-

stay gold by Tobly McSmith. honest to god, this book sounds like such a good outside retelling, and story that honestly sounds so important story. and i am literally such an outsider fan, so with this story just sounds and looks amazing. and i’m not sure if this book has a romance, but i know that the male character is trans and i believe bisexual, and i believe the girl falls for Pony, so hopefully it fits.

W/W RELATIONSHIP-

she’s too pretty to burn by Wendy Heard. i got an ARC of this book, and this comes out in 2021. and honestly this sounds like such a cool thriller w/w relationship. and i just sounds so cool, and i’m really excited to see how fires play some type of roll in this book.

POC LEAD-

you should see me in a crown by Leah Johnson. this book is honestly all over bookstagram and booktube, and i honestly think that this book will honestly live up to the hype. and i know for a fact that the main character is a Black teenager and i believe that she is bisexual, but i do know she is sapphic, but nobody really says if she is lesbian or bisexual.

GENDER FLUID REP-

i wish you all the best by Mason Deaver. when this came out, this book was literally everywhere, and i think i checked it out like three times from the library, but i never got to reading it. so, honestly this book sounds like the perfect time to get to it.

M/M ROMACE-

autoboygraphy by Christina Lauren. i honestly love this duos books, and i cannot wait to read this, and honestly it sounds so cute, and i expect that the it will just be so amazing. and this is probably will be so cute, but i honestly do not expect this book to be sexy whatsoever, since this is YA and not adult.

BISEXUAL REP-

i’ll be the one by Lyla Lee. i honestly cannot wait to read this, since it deals with music, fat rep, bisexual rep, and also that you need to be yourself. this just sounds like this book can be so powerful, and have such a great message for teenagers today. but, i’m not a kpop fan, but hopefully i’ll still like it.

BECCA BOOKOPOLY-

READ A YOUNG ADULT-

Lobizona by Romina Garber. honestly, this book just sounds so amazing, and i honestly cannot wait for this book. and i literally think this book sounds so interesting, and i feel like it sounds so different, but also cool. and i’m not the biggest fantasy fan by any means, so hopefully this will be kinda cool.

NATURE ON THE COVER-

the marriage game by Sara Desai. this book technically doesn’t have like trees or anything, but like some drawings of flowers around the cover, so it still counts. but, i still hope that it is somewhat cute, and and hopefully it is like a feel good romance, and not super cheesy.

FRIEND PICK-

all the broken people by Leah Konen. i’m actually so scared to read this book, since i read another book by this author and it was a romance, and this obviously isn’t a romance book. so, i mean i think that this book sounds cool, but at the same time i am just scared to read it.

OWN VOICES-

you had me at hola by Alexis Daria. okay, so basically i already started this book, and it’s an okay book, i don’t love it, but i don’t hate it. and i feel like this would be a good book for this prompt, since there is so much Mexican culture, and i feel like this book is just like so cute.

POC REP-

you should see me in a crown by Leah Johnson. i wasn’t going to double up on books, but i really want to read this book so bad, so i honestly just want to pressure myself to do it. and i think this is just so cool, and i hope i really like it.

FIRE ON THE COVER-

burn our bodies down by Rory Power. this book doesn’t have fire on the cover technically, but there is ‘burn’ in the title, and also a ton of people said that it deals with fire. so, it kinda fits, but also doesn’t. but, i’m hoping i really like this one, since i did dnf the other book in this series, so fingers crossed this one is better.

TBR VET-

get a life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert. i just finished this book, and it honestly was such a great book, and i’m so mad that i didn’t get to this book sooner. and i think this was just so cool and it was just such a steamy and cute book.

LIGHT COVER-

Paris is always a good idea by Jenn McKinlay. honestly, i am so in the need right now of a cute and feel good romance, and especially if this book takes place in Paris, which just sounds so amazing. and i honestly am so excited for this book.

RANDOM BOOKS-

the wives by Tarryn Fisher. i am so scared to read this book, since everyone pretty much says is that this book is shit, so i don’t really want to read it soon, since thanks to midnight sun, i am in a reading slump. but, hopefully i’ll read it eventually.

song of Achilles by Madeline Miller. i honestly am kinda scared to read this soon, since i feel like that so many people just hype of this book, and i don’t want to be the one person that hates it. and i mean i know there’s got to be one person that hate it, but still. and i mean i’m so excited since this is a greek god romance book.

after ever happy by Anna Todd. i already started reading this book, but my hold was up, so i’m going to go back into this stupid world and book series. and with all the shit that is on twitter about the second movie, this is just the perfect time to read this book.

you say it first by Katie Cotugo. i’m not even sure why i am going to read this book, since i hated the other books by this author. and i feel like this might be cute, but also it has to much potential to be really bad like yes no maybe so.

just a boy and a girl and a little canoe by Sarah Mlynowski. i already read a good chunk of this book, and i honestly do not like this book whatsoever. and i feel like this book is just like a very stereotypical YA book, and it isn’t even that good, but i still want to finish it.

anyway, that’s all for today. this is honestly such a long blog post, but i still am so excited to read these books, and get into all these books. and i literally cannot wait to read all of these, since they sound so amazing, but with my luck i probably won’t like them. also, i’m sorry that this is coming late, but i have covid, so it’s really hard to type and be able to type for a long time, but i finally did it.

August book haul

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all the books i hauled this month. i feel like a hauled a bunch of book, and i’m so excited for these, and i think these are so exciting to talk about.

lore- chapter sampler by Alexander Bracken. this book comes out January 5th. this book gives me major percy jackson vibes, and i’m kinda here for it. i already started this book, and holy crap it’s so amazing, and i’m a huge Greek God fan, and i love books with it. so, this will just be so amazing and differently my cup of tea.

unbirthday by Liz Braswell. this book comes out September 1st. i am literally so excited for this book. i have a massive twisted tale series fan, so i’m so excited that i got an arc of this. and i honestly think that it is so cool that this book is about Alice in Wonderland, even though i never saw that movie, i still know the plot. and i think this will be so cool, since it deals with Alice being late to Wonderland.

the rule of 3 by Ariella Talix. this book came out August 17th. i honestly have no clue when i requested this, or how the hell i got this one. but, this book is all about this MMF romance, or hookup. and i think that i probably will not read this, but who knows. and this is straight erotica, and i never read that, so that’s so fun.

the lost love song by Minnie Darke. this comes out October 13th. i honestly thought that this book is supposed to be this cute Christina Lauren book, but this sounds like more of a sad love story. and i feel like when i read the description, it pretty much told me the whole plot of this book and everything that happens. and, i honestly hope that i can really love this story.

rebel rose by Emma Theriault. this comes out November 10th. i never really talked about this, but i do find beauty and the beast retelling SO boring, but i feel like this one might be different. since, this book comes follow after her and the beast/ryan get married, and it’s about her becoming a queen. so, this just sounds so great, and hopefully it won’t be so cookie cutter.

the child who never was by Jane Renshaw. this book comes out August 16th. i feel like this book gives me major, the couple next door vibes, but i really enjoyed that. so, hopefully this one is really good also. but, i feel like this will be so cool to see how the book is talked about with the baby going missing and the parents relationship before and then how they acted together after.

stolen children by Michael Wood. this book comes out October 2. this book sounds like such an interesing book. this book sounds like a book that is all about this serial killer, who kills/ kidnaps children, but its this huge cold cast. and they haven’t really found any suspects, which is always such an interesting plot in anything.

she’s too pretty to burn by Wendy Heard. this book comes out March 30, 2021. oh my god, i literally can’t wait to read this book. this sounds like the perfect LGBTQ+ romantic thriller. and it honestly sounds so amazing, and i literally cannot wait to read this one.

the beat match by Kelly Siskind. this book comes out September 16th. okay, i just read the happy ever after playlist, and this honestly sounds so good, since it deals with music. and i really hope it is incorporated in a good way, and not like a really cheesy way.

lies behind the woods by Brandley Cornish. this comes out September 14th. this sounds like a kinda cool book, but like it is also going to be a drag to get through. and i feel like it sounds really cool that this main character was like saving a murder, but on the other side that he is going to be like upset and it’s coming back to haunt him.

accidentally in love by Belinda Missen. this book comes out September 11th. i’m not the biggest art fan in general, but i still think it sounds like kinda a cool book. i mean, it’s that whole trope that you fall in love with someone you didn’t really want to fall in love with. but, i still hope it is really cute and whatnot.

star daughter by Shveta Thakrar. i got this book in my monthly owlcrate, and i’m so excited for this book. and i honestly think this is just so interesting and how it deals with your family and doing what is right. and hopefully i’ll get to this soon.

anyway, that’s it for today! i hauled so many great books, and i think that these books are just so interesting. and i hope that these books are really hard hitting and just so amazing, and are just good books.

August wrap up

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all the books i’ve read this month. i’ve read a decent amount of books this month, and i really liked a lot of the books i’ve read this month. but, there was a couple that i definitely i didn’t like.

waiting for tom hanks by Kerry Winfrey. i gave this book 2/5 stars. this was honestly such a cute book, and i think that this had so many cute moments. and, the whole romance was just so cute, and it really had amazing moments. and i also really liked how it was all with a movie set, and how it all revolves around movies and the whole process of writing a screenplay.

a song below water by Bethany C. Morrow. i gave this book 2/5 stars. this was a pretty good book, but i also had some issues with this book. and i think that it did have some flaws, and then some parts of this book was just very boring. but, i think the foundation was great, but had a couple issues, but i still really liked it at parts.

making friends with alice dyson by Poppy Nwous. i gave this book 1/5 stars. this was just so boring, and i literally could not get into this whatsoever. it was just so boring, and literally nothing happened. and like they always talked about this ‘scandal’ and i thought it was going to be a sex tape or something interesting, but it was literally just dancing in the rain.

Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury. i gave this book 1/5 stars. look, i didn’t hate this book like i hated other books, but most of this book just went over my head completely. and it probably just is me, but like i just found it so confusing and uninteresting.

Beach read by Emily Henry. i gave this book 4/5 stars. this was honestly a pretty good book, but i do find this book had a whole lot of back and forth. and i do find this book was a big pity party, which just annoyed the hell out of me.

Bleachers by John Grisham. i gave this book 1/5 stars. honestly, this book was such a toxic book, and i had so many issues with this book, which i’ll write a review about it. but, i thought this book was just so boring and i just could not get into this.

such a fun age by Kiley Reid. i gave this book 4/5 star. this was a really weird read, since i think it was a really good read, but i also think that i feel weird rating this book. to me, i thought this was a very eye opening story, but i feel like there were parts of this book that i didn’t really care for, and parts that was really weird, and that just didn’t sit well with me.

the mother in law by Sally Hepworth. i gave this book 2/5 stars. this was honestly such a fast book to listen too. but, i did find that this book was overall just very crappy. i mean, i think the whole “who killed her?” plot line was really stupid, and it was pretty easy to pick out who actually killed her.

beneath a sugar sky by Seanan McGuire. i gave this book 1/5 stars. as someone that has an eating disorder, and is in some kind of recovery, this book triggered me so much. they always talked about how the main character was so fat, and how she needed to loose a bunch of weight, and it honestly just didn’t sit well with me.

anyway, that’s it for today! i read a lot of books, and most of them where pretty enjoyable, but i did hate a far amount of them, which honestly such. but, i hope that September will be better.

the NOPE book tag

hello everyone! today i am going to be doing the NOPE book tag. this honestly sounds like such a cool tag, so i honestly cannot wait to talk about it. and i think that it will really show everything that i hate in books, which is a lot.

NOPE ENDING- A BOOK ENDING THAT MADE YOU GO NOPE EITHER IN DENIAL, RAGE, OR SIMPLY BECAUSE IT WAS CRAPPY.

i literally hated the ending of yes, no, maybe so by Becky Albertalli and Aisha Saeed. it was honestly such a shitty ending, and i really hated it. i mean, i think it was just so all over the place. and, i really didn’t like how it ended up for Maya and everything that went down with her. and it was such a crappy ending, and i cannot tell you how much crappy it was.

NOPE PROTAGONIST- A MAIN CHARACTER YOU DISLIKE AND DRIVES YOU CRAZY.

this isn’t a big surprise, since i always talk about this book and how much i hated it. but, i literally hated the main character in again, but better by Christina Riccio. she literally annoyed the hell out of me, and i think that she was so obsessed with her college crush. anyway, the character was pretty much just Riccio in a nutshell. and it was just so annoying since they where literally the same people.

NOPE SERIES- A SERIES THAT TURNED OUT TO BE ONE HUGE PILE OF NOPE, OR A SERIES THAT JUST WASN’T WORTH IT ANYMORE.

this is so controversial, since literally everyone on bookstagram literally loves this series so much. but, i did not like caraval series by Stephanie Garber at all. literally all the characters where so annoying, and they drives me honestly crazy. and the plot for all the books was exactly the same, with some minor changes. but, i do think Garber has a lot of potential in the grand scheme of things and she would be such an amazing writer, if she just got out of this fantasy world that she created.

NOPE PAIRING- A POPULAR PAIRING OR “SHIP” YOU DON’T SUPPORT.

this is literally no surprise to literally anyone on what ship i’m going to pick, since i literally hate this book/couple with every fiber in my body. i’m going to go with Hardin and Tessa from the after series by Anna Todd. they are literally so freaking toxic, and their whole relationship is built on a foundation of lies. and, honey, that does not sit well with me whatsoever. and, also the fact that Hardin is so mentally abusive to Tessa, but nobody talks about it. and i literally could write an whole essay on why this book is shitty, so i guess i might write on for my blog, but who knows.

NOPE PLOT TWIST- A PLOT TWIST YOU DIDN’T SEE COMING OR DIDN’T LIKE.

i hated the plot twist in everything everything by Nicola Yoon. it was literally so toxic and how everything got brought together. and, i honestly really hated how they didn’t talk about the mom’s disorder, or mental health issue, it’s called Munchausen syndrome, and it’s the illness that the mom had in the act with joey king. and i really just hated how it was handled and how everyone acted.

NOPE DECISION- A CHARACTER DECISION OR ACTION THAT MADE YOU SHAKE YOUR HEAD NOPE.

this honestly might not make sense, and i might have just pulled this from my ass, or it’s from the movie. but, i didn’t like the whole plot with Jacob leaving his dad in Miss Peregrine’s home for peculiar children by Ransom Riggs. i literally found that it was such a stupid thing to do, and it was just a dick move. since, his dad came all the way to England with you for a vacation, and then you say, see ya later dad. and that just pissed me off.

NOPE GENRE- A GENRE YOU WILL NEVER READ.

i literally hate sci fi books and i hate reading them. i personally hate this genre so much, and i find this genre so boring. i honestly hate the whole other planet garbage, and i cannot stress it enough on how much i hate these books.

NOPE BOOK FORMAT-BOOK FORMATTING YOU HATE AND AVOID BUYING UNTIL IT COMES OUT IN A DIFFERENT EDITION.

i’m not really sure how to describe this, but i literally hate the editions that are like hardcovers, but it doesn’t have a dusk jacket and the cover is printed on the book. i think that this is just so stupid and it just looks so ugly. i think it just one, doesn’t fit my shelves, and two, i think that the whole thing is just so stupid, cause like it just doesn’t fit. and i rather by any other type of book, then these.

NOPE TROPE- A TROPE THAT MAKES YOU GO NOPE.

i literally have a list of ones that i hate. one of the main ones is that fake dating. i personally think that it was just so boring, and they all are the same stories. and also the fact that the girl is normally anti social and a high school misfit, where the guy is this popular sports game player, and he is trying to make his ex girlfriend jealous. and i honestly find this so annoying.

NOPE RECOMMENDATION- A BOOK RECOMMENDATION THAT IS CONSTANTLY HYPED AND PUSHED AT YOU THAT YOU REFUSE TO READ.

i literally get nevernight by Jay Kristoff pushed at me literally every day, but this guy is hell problematic, so i don’t want to read this. and i also think the plot is just so basic and boring, so i literally don’t want to read this one.

NOPE CLICHE/PET PEEVE- A CLICHE OR WRITING PET PEEVE THAT ALWAYS MAKES YOU ROLL YOUR EYES.

this honestly annoys me that when you are reading a book and there is so much detail about literally everything else. the main thing that i hate is when you get told about literally everything, so you get told everything they eat, and do and what literally everyone looks like. it just annoys me so much, and i think that it just is something that shouldn’t exist and it just makes the book so much more boring. also the whole fact they talk about literally everything that happens.

NOPE LOVE INTEREST- A LOVE INTEREST THAT’S NOT WORTHY OF BEING ONE.

There are honestly so many that i could pick, but i think i’m going to pick Kelly in such a fun age by Kiley Reid. he was such a toxic love interest and i really hated him in this book. And i mean all he did was say the n word when he’s a white dude, and also just fetizies Black women. This whole part just annoyed me, and i honestly hated him with Emira.

NOPE BOOK- A BOOK THAT SHOULDN’T HAVE EXISTED AND MADE YOU GO NOPE.

I already talked about this book, but i am going to bring it up again. For me, i’m going to go with After by Anna Todd. this is such a toxic book, and it deals with so many important topics, and also don’t even get me started in the rape scene the third book. And i think that this book series just doesn’t sit well with me, and i literally hate this series so much.

NOPE VILLAIN- A CRAPPY VILLAIN THAT MADE YOU GO NOPE.

I’m not really sure if this book would be considered a villain, but he definitely had that “i’m a bad guy and you need to fear me” vibe. And for me it’s Jaxon Vega in Crave by Tracy Wolff. He literally annoyed the hell out of me, and i feel like he was such a bad villain, since he tried to act all though he was just kinda sweet, to Grace. He honestly was just such an annoying character, i mean everyone in the book was, so i mean he fit in.

NOPE DEATH- A CHARACTER DEATH THAT STILL HAUNTS YOU.

Look, i read this book back in the day, so like 2018 and i’m almost on my reread on this book again. And oh my god, i have never gotten over Philby’s death in the return series by Ridley Pearson.  This death destroyed me, and it still pains me to this day. And, honestly thank god Ridley didn’t really kill him off, it was just like thank god. So, i really happy with that, but it still destroyed me.

NOPE AUTHOR- AN AUTHOR YOU HAD A BAD EXPERIENCE WITH AND DECIDED TO QUIT

This is honestly a hard one, i mean there are a lot of author’s that i don’t like that much. But, for me it’s James Patterson. Like i’ve read multiple books by him, and the books are just so shitty. They are literally so boring, and they are all knock offs of these other popular books. And i feel like he is just a bad author.

Anyway, that’s it for today. This was a pretty hard tag, but also so much fun since i get to talk about things that i hate, which is always such a fun topic. But, i feel like these books are so problematic and whatnot. Needless to say this was still a pretty fun post.

the happy ever after playlist review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about the happy ever after playlist by Abby Jimenez. i gave this book 5/5 stars. i honestly loved the first book in this series, and i honestly loved the first book, and this one was no different. it as just so cute and so amazing and i really enjoyed this book.

i was pretty surprised that this book was a “direct” sequel. i mean, it did have another narrator, but it still followed after the friend zone. but, i still think it was probably the best thing, since this did follow the events of the first one and watch Sloan move on. i just thought it was so amazing and i really think that it was so cool.

i also thought it was really cool that the book had a song to each chapter. i think that it was just so cool, since Jason is a singer. i feel like it really added to the chapter, and then there is also a good talk about how the song kinda of had the same vibe as what the chapter is about. but, i honestly wish i made a playlist on Spotify of all the songs, so i might have to do that whenever i can get the book again.

i also found that the book was so good with the dog. and i think that it added so much to the story. i mean, i really think that the dog was just added so much into the story. which, was always so cute. and i mean, Tucker really added to the story, and i think drew Jason and Sloan to the story. but, i still think that it was just so amazing, since all adult books need to have more dog. (slight spoiler- the dog doesn’t die in the story.)

and i honestly don’t know why they put Lola in the book. i mean, i don’t really understand the whole “i have a crazy ass ex girlfriend and she hates everyone else but she really is just fucked up.” and she honestly reminded me of like when Brittney Spears went crazy, but she never worked for Disney. and i don’t really know what she did to the plot, since she just added drama.

but, this book did give me the whole one direction kidnapped me and just harry styles fanfics in general. this was definitely the better and more fleshed out book then those on Wattpad. but, it still gave me those vibes, or the books that i read back when one direction was better. but, it was still kinda cool and gave me huge nostalgia.

but, this book was so cute and funny. like it was just so sweet and i just loved all of that so much. but, i do think that the book had so many cute moments, but then it also had those heartfelt moments. i just thought it was so cute, even though there was a lot of drama here and there.

i also thought that it was so amazing on how we got to see how Sloan moved on and grieved her fiance’s death. i mean, i think it was just so amazing to see her grieving, and then finally getting happy again. and i think that it was just so amazing, to see her finally move on, since she was so unhappy in the ending of the friend zone and then the start of this book.

but, i do find the ending was a hot mess. like, there was a ton of drama and it was just a hot mess, and a lot of people on goodreads and on youtube all said this. so, i really wish that the ending was just better, like the rest of the book. but, the start of the book was a whole lot better then the ending.

Sloan- i really liked how cool she was with the dog, and how she was with Kristen and Josh. but, i do think that it was pretty easy to like her in this book. but, i did feel so bad that how she had this massive heartbreak, and then gets happy, but then is miserable all over again. but, i still found that she was still really a bad ass, since she still pushed on. and i really liked how she loved painting, which was just so amazing.

Jason- i thought that he was very head strong, and that he really loved his job so much. but, also the whole fact that he loved Sloan so freaking much. and i just loved how much he was best friends with his dog. but, i do think that he had some issues, just like he was really dramatic and then the whole fact that he kicked him out.

anyway, that ‘s all for today. i really enjoyed this book, and i think that it was such a cute book in the start, and then the ending was just a hot mess. but, i still really loved the plot, and then the character. and i honestly cannot wait for life’s too short that’s coming out in April. and it also deals with a youtuber, so that is honestly so cool.

the bookish life of Nina Hill review

hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about the bookish life of Nina Hill by Abbi Waxman. i gave this book 2/5 stars. i honestly did not like this book whatsoever, it was so boring and honestly Nina annoyed the hell out of me. but, i honestly can kinda see why people like this book, since it’s all about books and bookstores. but, i still am one of the few people that did honestly hated this book.

this might have just been me, but i did find this book so stereotypical. i think, it was just had so many stereotypes mostly with readers, but it wasn’t that bad stereotypes, but they still kinda of annoyed me when i was listening to it. like at multiple times in the book, there was talk that all readers read in their bed, all readers like classics and prefers those, all readers don’t have friends and don’t want to be social whatsoever, and more that i won’t get into. it was just so annoying, since Waxman threw everyone in the same boat, and that everyone is the same person.

but, also i found that Nina was very “i’m not like other girl,” since she read books and works in a bookstore. i think it was so annoying, and not even just in this book, since i hate it in all books. but, in this book it was since all she did was talk about how she read, and how she was never like anyone else in her schools or even just in real life. but, if it wasn’t about how she reads books, it was that she lived and slept in a drawer when she was a baby, and then she’s so special since she doesn’t know who her dad is. it was honestly so annoying since it happened over and over again and also at least once a chapter.

something that i found really weird was how Nina talked to her cat like it was a toddler and not a cat. like i talk to my dogs sometimes, but i still don’t talk to them like they are a toddler and act like we can have real conversations. and i found it so annoying, cause this is a cat, not your baby. and like i don’t really care if you talk to your dog, since what you do in your own home is your own thing, but i just found it weird to put in a book. but, i also thought it was kinda weird that the narrator did this weird British accent for the cat.

i did find the romance was kinda weird. cause Nina literally lacked all social skills, like literally every single social skill, and she was worst then a toddler. and i honestly feel like she made her whole personality not having friends or like a boyfriend. so, when she was talking to him, it was just so uncomfortable. and we got pages and pages about how she wanted to be with him, ( i honestly forgot his name.) and i honestly just think that it was so weird and it just made really weird and whatnot.

i also thought it was kinda annoying and also very weird that Nina didn’t think that she had any other family, besides her mom. i mean, i think that it is just common sense that you would have some type of family. like if you where conceived on a hookup, and you don’t even know about the father, there will most likely be someone there as a family member, like either if it’s a cousin or like a half sister on your fathers side. i feel like that was just really annoying, but i can kinda see where she is coming from, but i did find it kinda weird though.

i also thought that this book would have a bunch of funny and heartfelt moments and also emotional depth with her family. where it literally was not funny, i mean i think she tried really hard to be freaking funny, but it was not funny whatsoever. and i think that she literally ran away from any cute family moments, she ran the other direction, which was really annoying since it would have added so much depth.

in my opinion, i do think that this book would make a really good coming of age movie. like it would be such a cute movie, if it isn’t like a direct adaption. so, like there is inspo, but not like a direct adaption. but, i would still be happy if they do adapt this book, since i think it is a story that a bunch of people can relate to in away.

i also think that the whole quiz bowl thing was a very boring plot point. i do think that it did add to the whole her finding her boyfriend or whatever they are. but, i do think it was just a plot point that i just couldn’t get into, since i’m not a big quiz bowl thing. and it was just so much yelling and arguing.

but, i feel like this book had a really great foundation, but the plot and how annoying Nina was just ruined everything. but, i wish it wasn’t so much of a “i’m not like other girls.” but, i still wish that there was more substance and not just this book going every other direction then straight.

Nina- she was hella annoying. she always made her life seen like she had the worst life in the world, and i think that this was so annoying. and i really just think that she just made everything so annoying.

anyway, that’s all for today. this was honestly a pretty bad book, and i think that it was just so annoying. and i mean i think that this wasn’t that cute of a book, like i thought it would be. it was honestly just such a bad book honestly.
