hello everyone! today i am going to talk about after by Anna Todd. I gave this book a good ole 1/5 stars. i hated this book so so much, and will explain more why i didn’t like it.
i’ll say this when i talk about Tessa as a character. but, she acted like such a good girl, and also a grandma. She acted like everyone would end up in jail, but also that they where all such drunks and druggies. but also that she wasn’t like most girls.
as for the boyfriend, Tessa worshiped him, and Noah worshiped her. like this was some Jesus level stuff. they only dated for maybe a year, and they never did anything but kiss once or twice. and yeah, i mean she was faithful to him for a while, but still she did cheat and whatever. which, i guess was okay, since she did get something ‘good’ out of it.
Todd couldn’t write characters for nothing. since everyone acted like the same person, and pretty much the same person, just minor differences, like Tessa reads and dresses like the church girl she is. but, nobody has a personality and if they do, it was the same as the next person.
Tessa is such a drama queen, and literally cries every five minutes. you could literally look at her, and she would ball her eyes out and says that everything is wrong and she did everything wrong. and she literally thought that everyone is out to get her to some degree.
now lets talk about the writing, it took literally 10 chapters to do one party, or even to talk about the apartment and what it looked like. it was just so insane. but, it was also insane that they literally described everything in detail and every thought that went through their heads. it was so insane, since there was things in so much detail, and didn’t need to be wrote that much. we literally saw every thing that Tessa did, like what she ate, the color of underwear she wore, how this looks.
as for the college aspect, Tessa went to school every day, and we got told each thing that happened in her classes. but as the book goes on, she gets a job, and then college goes out the window. she literally stopped going to college, or as it seemed. all she did about college, was go to parties and talk to Hardin.
with Hardin and Tessa’s relationship, it is such a toxic relationship. all they did was fight, and then make up in the end. Tessa obviously couldn’t trust Hardin, so i don’t even know why she stayed with him. and in the start he was such a dick to her, so i don’t even know what she saw in him.
as i read the book, i thought Hardin was such a bad character, but as the book goes on, you realize that Hardin is not the devil, it is actually Tessa mother. she basically disowned Tessa cause she is with someone that loves her who has tattoos and is a bad boy. it was so insane, but i can see where the mom was going. since she is rebelling to some degree, and shouldn’t push Noah on you.
this book has the worst stereotypes. for example, Tessa says that all teenagers drink and do drugs, and are no good. but also that they always get in trouble, and also don’t study and fail school. and this happened so many times, and it was just insane.
all these characters in this book are so dramatic. Tessa cried every five minutes. you could pretty much just look at her, and then she’d start crying. and all the characters did do some of the same things, but just yelled and drank for their emotions.
Tessa Young– she is one of the most grandma characters in the world. she is so boring, and has so much ocd, but won’t say it. Tessa acts like such a goody two shoes. where she won’t kiss Hardin, since she has a boyfriend, and it just got so crazy. she is such your basic church girl, and such dresses like one.
Hardin Scott– he was such a dick of a character. i feel like in the start, he was a kind of a nice character, and then he just turned into a dick as the story went on. but, i think he did use Tessa, not only the bet, but more and more.
anyway, that’s it for today. i know this was longer then my other blog posts, since i did have a ton of feelings on this book. but, the next ones should be shorter, and more to the point.
