hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about the kiss quotient by Helen Hoang. i gave this book 5/5 stars. i loved this book so much. plus, it was own voices, which i loved so much, which i’ll talk about more, but there was still some issues which i’ll also talk about.
Stella had autism, which was a main thing in the book. i also think it is own voices, which was very cool. but, i know this whole book is somewhat of a coming of age story, but her parents and her one coworker, always baby her. they make her feel little and make her feel like a 10 year old, not a late 20’s to early 30’s.
this is kind of the same thing that i talked about before, but also not. so, her parents always baby her, and make her feel small, but they keep questioning her on how she should get with her co worker, Phillip. but, Stella doesn’t like Phillip, since she is ‘with’ Micheal, but regardless, she doesn’t like him. it was so annoying, since Phillip kept throwing himself at her, and her parents kept throwing Philip at her. Plus, her parents kept saying, have a baby, when it’s none of their business if and when Stella wants kids.
if your looking for a sexy book, this is the one for you. the whole book revolves about a male escort, Michael, who is trying to teach Stella about sex and everything similar to it. which was really interesting and sexy, but it continues threw out the rest of the book.
it was also very additive and quick read. the whole book reads as a movie, and even has a movie feel to it. and everything plays out so well. i got really into the story and i think a bunch of people can. it was also such a mussy and happy read.
so, in this book there was a ton of tropes. one of the biggest one is the whole FAKE DATING. which i loved so much in this book. it was just done so amazing and not like TATBILB, so it was done very very good, and didn’t have to much issue. the whole romance was SLOW BURN. which i liked so much, and it just added so much more to the story.
now for the characters. i loved the two main characters so much, they where just so nice and worked so well with each other. everyone just balanced each other out.
Michael– one of my favorite things about him, he is Swedish Vietnamese, which was something i loved so so much. he also held a more “feminine” job, since he was a male escort and clothes designer. but, he never ever belittled Stella. Michael never pushed Stella, and never made Stella have sex, or do something that he only wants.
Stella- she held the more “masculine” job in the relationship, since she worked in economics. Stella also felt so REAL and was a real person and just an diagnosis. plus, the whole book was on Stella’s terms, she told Michael what she wanted to do.
trigger warnings– sexual harassment, anxiety attacks, parental abandonment, chronic illness/ cancer.
in general, this is such a sex positive book and also so feminist. it was some cute shit in it. there was so much understanding and communication in this book, which is so important to so many people. but, this book was such a book that so many people would read when they are waiting to find their “person” or someone that found their person but, still wants all that cute shit.
