hello everyone! today i am going to be reviewing queen of bright and shiny things by Ann Aguirre. i gave this book 4/5 stars. this was a reread, which i greatly enjoyed in the end. this one might be a little longer then the previous two, since i enjoyed this one quite a bit.
one of the first things that annoyed me was how Sage picked on each different cliche. she called this group losers or geeks. which i found was basic and your classic high school. this was also your unrealistic version of high schoolers and high school in general.
i hated how Sage would call Ryan her best friend, even though he was never nice to her. for example, Ryan told everyone that they were together as a couple. he really did her dirty, and he can’t be that much of such a great friend if he makes up some massive lie about her.
the whole fight with Sage and Dylan was over the top and went to far. he hit her with his truck and other various things to harm her or other things that means something to her. but, i don’t think Sage helped anything with writing on his car, so i guess she had it coming.
this is not that much of spoiler, since it’s the whole plot of this book, but i loved the romance. i felt like it was cute, but i felt like it was a little bit toxic at some points. they really complemented each other and helped each other grow in a positive way.
but, i felt like the sex scene was really rushed. i think it was a page, if even that, and i wish we got a glimpse of a more intimate moment. i felt like the whole built up of the story was getting to this moment, which was very rushed.
trigger warning–
cancer- this was talked about with her parents and how they died
house burning- this was another big one, but it was talked about for a little bit
parents dying- this is one of the biggest plot, this also goes along with the house burning down
anyway, that’s everything for today. i would definitely check out goodreads for more triggers, since i didn’t do it justice. but, i think i would enjoy this more if i didn’t read this during exam season, but i still think it was cute and quick.
