september book haul

hello everyone! it’s so crazy that this is the end of september. it feels like we just started august, and i just finished my septemeber book haul, but it has been 29+ days. anyway, i hauled quite a few books this month (17 in total,) so i will each each description short, so you aren’t here for a long time reading this.

so, the first chuck of books i hauled this month was, far from a sale at my library. i actually got these four one weekend and then four the other weekend. so, i’ll explain it the four and then the other four.

the first four are the fall of butterflies by andrea portes, the mystery of hollow places by rebecca robos, don’t even think about it by sarah mlynowski, and salt and storm by kendall kulper. most of them where all cover buys, but they where only 25 cents a piece, but the books do sound good. the book by sarah mlynowski was bought because i read two of her other books and liked them a lot.

and then the other four where, this side of salvation by jeri smith-ready, the ghost of heaven by marcus sedgwick, a midsummer night’s scream by rl stine, and finally, some kind of normal by juliana stone.

the next book i got was capturing the devil by kerri maniscalo. i ‘got’ this book in april, for my birthday, but didn’t actually recieve it till september because that is when it came out.

and the next four books are all books that i got from barnes and noble. little do we know by tamara ireland stone, a whole new world by liz braswell, the cheerleaders by kara thomas, and far from the tree by robin benway.

and the next three books are from subscription boxes. the first two are from owlcrate and the last one if from YA BOTM. the hunting of hill house and shirley jackon, the penguin horror edition. and the next one is the bone house by emily lloyd-jones. and then i got the ten thousand doors of january by alix e harrow.

and the last book i got was catching jordan by miranda kenneally from a local thrift shop.

well, i hope you enjoyed this. it was a lot to write, since there was a ton of books i had to talk about. but, anyway, i hope you enjoy this.

capturing the devil review

hello everyone! so, today i’m going to be reviewing capturing the devil by kerri maniscalo. this is the last book in the stalking jack the ripper series, and it is honesly so bittersweet to write this, since i don’t want thomas and audrey rose’s story to end. but, i gave this book a 5/5 stars. i did have a couple issues with this book, but i’ll explain it down below more.

so, one of my first issues was kerri said that the murder was the first plot, and all the books murder and finding the killer is the main focus of all the books. which i like a lot, the whole murder mystery. but, this one, was mainly about romance, the main idea is thomas and audrey rose getting married and starting the newly wed life. which, i was fine with, since we get to see so much of these two together, but there could have been more murder talk in the beginning.

so, having this book be the last one in the series, you naturally get a lot of the old character in this book, just to say your final goodbyes and whatnot. i really liked that noah and mephtro where in here again, and new characters that we can grow to love. and i liked most of the characters.

one of the other things that i didn’t like, they talked about jack the ripper 24/7, which i expected, but they talked about it every five words. and i understand that her brother just died, since he was jack the ripper, so i understand that she will be upset, but she was always crying. which was pretty annoying.

i felt like the book did go full circle, with the wedding not happening and then finally happening. and just them finally happy and having a great ending.

the other thing i greatly enjoyed that Audrey Rose found the killer not Audrey Rose and Thomas together. i felt like it gave some more girl power to the to girls and Audrey Rose. and i feel like it gave Audrey Rose more power, not having her a shadow behind Thomas, if you know what i mean.

i actually like all of the small sex scenes and the kissing between the two of them. i know this was kinda controversial, since some people said that they didn’t like it. i feel like it made them seen like a more real couple, since we all know couples kiss and maybe having sex.

so, this is it for this post. i’m sorry this is so long, but i want to capture all my thoughts, since i love this book and the series so much. get the capture pun? no, okay, well anyway, i hope you enjoy this.

there will be lies book review

hello everyone! so, today i’m going to reviewing there will be lies by nick lake. i gave this book 3/5 stars. i actually read this book once before, then i dnfed it, but i wanted to try it again, so i gave it a go. this post with have some spoilers, just beware, and i also forgot the main character name, so she is called main character girl, or mcg.

anyway, going into the real review. so, one of the first thing i thought, was the author threw random crap at us every other chapter. we got told that she was deaf like 10 chapters in the whole book. and he did this more and more, it was really confusing.

and the next issue i had with the book was the dreaming part. it was over all really confusing and it didn’t seem like you need to have in it. it was just talking about how they where in a different world. i thought that it was useless, and didn’t contribute to the book, it just added extra pages, that didn’t need to be there.

so, the next issue is that the whole mother issue happening. i think that the main character girl got her life over acting in some way, like she ran away from her real family, and ran back to the lady that kidnapped her. which is ridiculous, i know that she is your whole life. this lady kidnapped you for god sake.

like i understand that this lady is your whole life, but you have to realize that she lied to you for 16+ years. and i don’t understand how she got away with this for years and she works in a god damn courthouse. how does nobody there realize who she is and about her daughter???

my other issue with the book was the cps just let mcg go home with her parents. i know they came over every day, but that still doesn’t mean anything. and when mcg ran away, it was like nothing ever happened, the cps didn’t do anything and her parents where like whatever.

so, that’s the end, and i hoped you enjoyed this. the book was a cool book to read, cause we got running from the cops and faking your name. something we don’t see in ya lit that much. i would totally recommend you reading this book in october for some thriller reads.

two of us is lying review

hey everyone. so, today i’m going to be talking about two of us is lying by karen m mcmanus. i actually really liked this book, and i even liked her first book a lot too. i gave it a 4/5 stars rating.

so, i loved her writing. i really like how it changes POV, and how you get two sides of the story. so, you see what two different people are going through.

i really liked most of the characters. there where times where i didn’t like them, cough couch the cop. but, they where great, for the most part. and i still think, that them being bad characters, also made the book so much better. that sound weird i know, but hear me out. the story is all about people dying, and its one of the biggest parts, hint hint, why we all read it. and i think, having the author write more about the murder, and then she didn’t focus on the characters. but, i think it was still really good.

and now, the murders, it was so thrilling and it was so great. i definitely see who the real killer was. all the clues and everything, where so amazing. i was definitely sucked in.

and that’s it everything for today guys. i’m sorry this is so short, i’m just swamped in school work, and i like it so much, where i would just say, i like this and that. but, you should all check it out, it definitely really good.

the wicked king review

hey guys. so, a couple days ago, august 16 to be exact, i finished the wicked king and gave it a 4/5 stars rating. which, is pretty good.

so, one of my firsts issues/ things i didn’t like, was Jude and Vivi acted weird or odd around Heather. they acted really shy around her, and wouldn’t tell her about going to Farie land. then when something to happen her there, they acted like everything was going to be okay, spoiler, everything isn’t amazing.

the beginning and middle were pretty boring. they kept saying random names, and i couldn’t figure out what was happening and who they where. but, eventually you figured out, who they where, and found out what they do in the story.

Cardan and Jude’s relationship was amazing. granted, they aren’t they aren’t together, they are just friends or co workers. but, the sex scene wasn’t that graphic, and actually pretty good for YA.

the ending, was such a great ending. i feel like it could be the end, if holly black didn’t put another book. the one part, in Cardan’s room, it killed me. it was so great. i honestly loved it so much.

the actually ending, was so sad, but also so great. we saw the mean side of cardan, which we all knew he had, but he also what he has to do to save his city? country? but i’m really excited to see what happens with Jude and Cardan and the farie world.

and thats it you guys. i hope you enjoyed this review. i actually really enjoyed this book, and i’m really excited to see what happens in Queen of Nothing.

if you want to see what im reading in real time, follow my bookstagram and/or goodreads at r.bookish.

september tbr

hey everyone. its really crazy to believe that it’s already september, it feels like it was only yesterday that i stayed up till midnight to watch the ball drop, and now there is only four more months left of the year. anyway, i hope to read six books, since i’m back at school and i have a lot of homework, but you know the whole deal.

anyway, the first book i want to read, and probably my most anticipated release of 2019, capturing the devil by kerri maniscalo. I’m so excited for this, i’ve been waiting since september 2018. it honestly can’t wait for this saga to come full circle, and for the wedding. but, it is very bitter sweet for it to be completed, since this is the only other book series i have loved since twilight.

the next book i was supposed to actually read in august, but one thing lead to another, and i didn’t actually read it, which is we hunt the flame by hafsah faizal. i got this in owlcrate a couple months ago, and i really want to read it, since there is such great reviews about it.

the next book, i actually started in august, but ended up reading the first five chapter, and wanting to read the rest, sorcery of thrones by margaret rogerson. the chapters that i read, where really good, and i definitely want to read more in the future. i normally wouldn’t read these types of books, but ever since the cruel prince, i really love fantasy a whole lot more.

the next book, i really wanted to read since i started in the book community, is the boy in the striped pajamas by john boyne . i really wanted to read it since, even more because one of my best friends in real life, liked the book and liked it a lot.

the next book, is not out yet, and i’m actually really excited for it to come out, is serpent and dove by shelby mahurin. i’ve heard a bunch of booktubers and book bloggers talk about it, and i’m really excited for it.

the next book is also a group read, and it is my lady jane. i’m really excited, since a lot of people like it. i actually dnfed this book before, so i hope i like it.

the next, and last book i want to read is Eleanor and park by rainbow rowell. this is actually a group read for a book club.

i hope you enjoy this post. i’m really excited for september to get started and to read a bunch of good books.

august wrap up

hey everyone. it is so crazy that i’m already doing an august wrap up. it was a pretty crazy month, i started high school, launched the blog, and many other crazy things. i read eight books, even though a bunch of things have happened.

the first book i read was disney at dawn by ridley pearson. this is the second book in the kingdom keeper series. this series is so close to my heart, and i honestly love this so much. i gave this book a 5/5 stars.

the next book i read was, house arrest by ka holt. i didn’t actually like this book. i thought it was really boring and not interesting, and i couldn’t get into it, but still somehow finish it. and of course, i read this a 1/5 stars.

and the next book i read, which is also a reread, was the fault in our stars by john green. i didn’t enjoy this book as much as the other times, but still liked it very much. and in the end, i gave this book a 4/5 stars.

the next book i read was, scythe by neal shusterman. i know this is definitely a massive unpopular opinion, but i didn’t like the book. i didn’t like the writing and just the general plot of this story. i actually have a blog post, you can check that out for more info. and i gave this a 2/5 stars.

and the next book i read was the cruel prince by holly black. this was actually a reread, and the first time i read it, i hated it, but now this time i actually really liked. i also have a blog post about this one up. this was a 4/5 star read.

and the next book was the wicked king by holly black. i actually dnfed this book, and then reread it, and liked it. i thought that it was a great read, and the ending killed me. i can’t wait for the sequel. and i gave this a 4/5 stars.

and the next and final book i read was two of us is lying by karen m mcmanus. i read this book since i loved her first book, so naturally, i wanted to read the first one. i thought this one was really good, and i gave it a 4/5 stars.

i hoped you enjoyed this. i think i had a pretty good reading month, even though a bunch of things happened. you can follow me on goodreads and instagram at r.bookish.

august book haul

hey everyone. one of the things i love to do each month, is make a book haul on my instagram, just to document the books that i buy. it just makes me feel more put together. i bought three books in august, which is pretty good, since i normally haul 5+ books. i was trying to do a book buying ban, and the on book was from owlcrate, which i get every month, and the other two for less then 2 dollars.

the first book that i bought was catching fire. it’s the second book in the hunger games book series. so, i can’t say that much about it, since it is a sequel, and i don’t want to spoil me or anyone else.

the next book i got, was mocking jay, the next, and final book in the series. yet again, i’m not going to say what it is about, since i don’t want to spoil anyone. but, i got this book and the last one i talked about for less then $2.

and finally the last book i received, was house of salt and sorrows by erin a. craig. this is the book i got from owlcrate, and i really happy that i own a copy to read.

and that is it everyone. i hope you enjoyed this. it honestly felt really good to not buy a ton of books this month.

the cruel prince review

hey guys! So, today i’m going to be talking about the cruel prince, with i’m really excited to talk about. if you follow my instagram, linked in my profile, you know i was reading it, and excited to get back in this world. but, the first time i read this, i didn’t actually like it, hated it actually, but as I reread it, i liked it a whole a lot more. Which i think i hated it a lot since i was a newer reader and didn’t really knew what was happening in fantasy and the whole worlds of fantasy. but as a experienced reader, i gave it a 4/5 stars. now, in to the actual review.

The first time i read this, i remember i hated Jude with a passion. I thought she was annoying and wouldn’t leave Cardan alone, which i thought was really annoying. but, as i reread it, i actually really liked Jude, and thought that the tension between Jude and Cardan was really great. but, Jude was a really great character, and knew what she wanted, and tried to get it.

Next is Cardan. i really like him as a character, probably one of one of my bookish boyfriends. i really liked how he was cocky and just a not great person, which made his character so much better. and him being royalty and having a tail and most likely pointy ears, is probably the best part about him, besides his personality.

i really like how Jude and Cardan’s romance, the very slow burn and enemy to lovers and all the sexual tension between the two of them. and how you don’t see a bunch of it, but hopefully see more in the second and third. but, i think it was really tasteful, not being bum bared with romance, where you just get most of the plot, family, and world figured out.

the plot of the story was really great. but, some parts i feel like they are really basic, parents dying, hating your stepfather, and fighting between siblings, but i feel like it helped the book move faster and actually be good. and i really liked the aspect of her being in fairy land, even though she is mortal. but, with being fantasy, there was still two parts where they where in the united states, and i thought that was really cool and made it seem more real.

as you might know, i’m not the biggest fantasy lover, but i feel like this book is great for people trying to get into fantasy books, or even YA.

and that’s it for today, i hope you enjoyed this. i really enjoyed the cruel prince, and hopefully going to start the wicked king soon.

scythe book review

so, here’s the thing about scythe, I expected to like it. Love it even. But, it feel short. I gave it 2/5 stars.

I found Citra quite annoying. Half of the time, she’s whining, or complaining that she doesn’t want to be a scythe, in the beginning. But of course, she ends up loving being a scythe and the whole job and what it takes. I felt that she was a basic heroine in a YA novel.

Rowan was probably my favorite character. Even though, he didn’t get that much time, even because he is one of the story tellers. I didn’t think he was that whinny, and didn’t do it for his family’s sake.

I guess you can tell from the review so far, the book was overly boring. The concept was pretty cool, but it wasn’t told that well.

With the whole, you don’t die, we kill you concept, was interesting. It wasn’t something you see a lot, but it wasn’t told well. There wasn’t any rules on what they can and can’t do, hell someone killed themselves. And then Citra got ‘killed.’ I don’t understand how someone can kill someone and they die, but under some points you do die. It just wasn’t told and didn’t have any laws like societies do.

Anyway, that’s my thoughts on scythe. I probably won’t continue with the series, since the first book wasn’t that interesting enough to continue.
