
hello everyone! happy new year! today i am going to be talking about all the books i plan on reading in January, which my 2021 tbrs are gonna be a little different, just so i can read anything i actually want to read this year. and before we get into this, i’m just gonna talk about what books i want to read each month. but, this will also be put in my 2021 bookish resolution.
- each month will have my basic tbr, which is the books i get from the library, or things that i just want to read each month.
- then each month i will have my arcs, which i will have the books that are coming out this month, but also next month so i can get reviews up on their release day.
- i will also have 3 or 4 books that are older arcs i haven’t read. since, this will literally just be books that i got from the publisher that i never read.
- the next one is kinda basic, but i want to read 1 owlcrate book per month. since, i have been getting owlcrate for a couple years now, and i’ve never read that many of them.
now, for all the books i want to read.
rent a boyfriend by Gloria Chao. i’ve already started this book, and it is honestly so cute. just like any person, Chloe Wang is scared to introduce her boyfriend to her parents, but especially since she has never met him either. Chloe hired him from Rent for your ‘Rents, which is a company that specializing in fake boyfriends to impress the most traditional Asian parents. then there is Drew Chan, who just wants to do art, but his parents cut him off since they don’t like his career path. hence, why he is a Rent employee. but, Chloe and Drew had a simple plan, impress her parents and say that Drew is worthy of their approval. till, Chloe starts to fall for the real Drew, and not his prefect life, the artist.
the inheritance games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. Avery Grambs has a plan: to survive high school, win a scholarship, and get out. then everything changes when Tobias Hawthorne dies and leaves Avery everything with a catch. she has no idea who he is and she most move into a secret passage Hawthorne House. but, this house still has Hawthorne grandson’s living there. but, of course the grandsons don’t believe her and thinks she is a con woman. where Jameson, thinks this is some kind of a twisted last hurrah. but, in this twisted world, nobody can be to sure.
the betrothed by Kiera Cass. i know everyone hates this book, but i still want to give it a go. but, King Jameson declares his love for Lady Hollis Brite, and of course she is shocked and thrilled. of course she is, she spent most of her life trying to impress the king and get his attention, and capture his heart is a dream. but, Hollis soon learns that falling in love with a king isn’t the happily ever after she thought it might be. then she meets a commoner, who has the power to see right into her heart. and then finding her future she really really wants, but the one she never even imagined.
those who prey by Jennifer Moffett. college isn’t anything like Emily expected. she thought freshman year would be walking in the icy covered campus with friends and finally feeling like she is fitting in. but, she is walking the campus alone and not having a place to fit in so far from home. but, then the Kingdom finds her. the Kingdom is an exclusive on campus group, and offers everything Emily expected of college: friends, acceptance, a boyfriends, and even a trip to Italy. once they get to Italy, this isn’t the trip they thought it would be, they are stripped of their passports and money, cut off from their family, and how the Kingdom practices become more and more manipulative and dangerous. but, then someone dies.
teen killer club by Lily Sparks. 17 year old Signal Deere has raised an eyebrow for years as an unhappy goth in the trailer park. but, when she is convicted of her best friends, Rose, brutal murder, she is designated as a Class A, someone who is very dangerous and manipulative criminal. but, in order to avoid prison, she is put in a special sleep away camp for kids under 18 and a Class A. and in her bunk, she is with 7 trained assassins. but in this group, Signal doesn’t fit in, she doesn’t like blood and she is kind and empathetic, she is optimistic attitude who is threatening to turn a group of maniacs into a close group of friends. but, Signal isn’t a killer, she was just framed that she killed Signal and only joined this program to escape and track down Rose’s real killer.
something happened to Ali Greenleaf by Hayley Krischer. Ali Greenleaf and Blythe Jensen couldn’t be that more different. Ali is sweet, funny, and a bit naïve. and Blythe is beautiful, terrifying, and the most popular girl in the whole school. but, then Ali puts some moves on Sean Nessel, her longtime crush, but then Sean pushed Ali farther than she wants to go, she resists, and he rapes her. Blythe sees Ali when she runs from the party, and Blythe knows something happened with Sean, but she still befriends Ali. but, they go to Blythe’s circle and all the popular girls share their secrets no way anyone else has ever has.
you should see me in a crown by Leah Johnson. everyone knows what this book is about, so i’m going to do this very quickly. but Liz Lighty has never fit in, and now she wants to leave her small town and got to her Pennington college. but, when the financial aid falls threw, all of her plans fall threw, she learns that the prom king and queen get some money. the only issue is that the new girl Mack, is also running and also Liz’s long time crush.
you have a match by Emma Lord. Abby signs up for a DNA service, she mainly goes to give her friend and secrets love interest, Leo. anyway, she knows who she is already: a photographer, a injury prone tree climber, and best friend to Leo and Connie, even though she has had the big embarrassing incident with Leo. but, she never knew she was a younger sister. since the DNA service shows that she has a secret sister, an instagram stat Savannah Tully, it is hard to believe that they are related. so, they meet up at summer camp, and figure out why Abby’s parents gave up Savvy up for adoption, well there is family drama and the romance with Leo.
the famoux by Kassandra Tate. after the wreckage of an environmental collapse, and now the country of Delicatum came up. and now it’s most important tv show, famoux, which features all these beautiful stars called the fishbowl. now, 16 year old Emilee is obsessed with the Famoux, they provide help for her terrible life at home. but, when she gets the offer to become a member of herself, she takes it. leaving behind everything she is known, and now enters a world of high glamour and high stakes.
city of the Plague God by Sarwat Chadda. 13 year old Sik just wants to have a simple life, go to school and helping at his parents deli at night. but, then Nergal comes looking for Sik, thinking Sik holds the secret to eternal life, but in a turn of events it turns out Sik is immortal but doesn’t know it yet. luckily, Sik isn’t alone, he has Belet, the adopted daughter of Ishtar, the goddness of love and war on his side. to succeed though, they will need to conquer demons, gods, and their own nightmares.
city of villains by Estelle Laure. this is all about Mary Elizabeth Heart, who is a high school senior in the day, but at night she is an intern at the Monarch City police department. so, she watches the detectives fight the crime rate. and the cities wealth neighborhood called Scar, who had a bunch of magic. then the businessmen goes missing, and Mary Elizabeth gets the chance to help when she gets put on the case. but, one missing persons case becomes more and more, and lettings her go into a rabbit hole. that’s when she finds a girl with horns, boyfriends with secrets, and a sea monster in a poison lake. and this book is kind of a different origin story for different disney villains.
throwaway girls by Andrea Contos. with being three months away from high school graduation, Caroline Lawson is so excited to finally escape her prep school and the parents that thought they can convince her to be straight. until graduation, Caroline is keeping her head down even though she is crushed because her girlfriend left for California. then her best friend Madison disappears. what Caroline doesn’t know is what her friend was actually doing behind closed doors and how other girls just go missing and how they aren’t receiving much attention. but, Caroline wants to fix that.
this eternity of masks and shadows by Karsten Knight. the gods walk about us, lurk in shadows, act as mortals, and even some act as celebrities. but, one of them murdered Cairn Delacroix’s mother. and with the help of Nanook, she is trying to figure it all out.
media queen by Michelle Prak. Jordyn Fairweather has worked super hard to get to the top of the magazine world, but now she is in some trouble. the younger media stars are trying to steal her and all the companies are slowly collapsing because of the internet. this follows our main character from when she was a teenager in the 90s to an adult in the 2000s.
under your skin by Rose McClelland. when Kyle’s wife, Hannah, goes missing, the whole town is set out to find her. there is hashtags and campaigns and everything to try and find Hannah, even though one person knows where she is, and is also keeping that a secrets. then there is Julia Matthews, who becomes super friendly with Kyle, and as she gets more and more involved in the case, she finds more and more secrets then she wanted to, and now she is in a web of mysteries she can’t escape.
these violent delights by Chloe Gong. this book takes place in 1926 Shanghai, which leads to a blood feud between the two gangs. then there is Juliette Cai, who is a former flapper and is assuming her role as the heir of the Scarlet Gang. and then there is Roma Montagov, who has the White Flowers, and is also Juliette’s first love and betrayal. then the bodies stack up, and Juliette and Roma need to set their guns and grudges aside and work together, so they can stop the mayhem so there will till be a city to rule.
