Hey everyone! So, this is my fourth time reading TFIOS, and I have some thoughts. I gave TFIOS 4/5 stars in the end. But, beware, THERE IS SPOILERS! But if you haven’t read this, you probably live under a rock, so proceed with caution, if you still want to read this and haven’t read it. But if you did, go ahead and hope you enjoy .
First thing first, I found hazel really annoying. She whines half of the time, and the other time she’s talking like a doctor, then the next she’s talking about how much she loves Gus. I like Gus too, but I’m not saying how much I love him every five seconds I think about him. And she’s always talking like she’s a 50 year old doctor that deals with cancer patients every single day of her young life.
Anyway, i feel like it was way to dramatic. In a way , I feel like they made Gus’s issues, to drag out longer then they needed too, but I also feel like it wasn’t enough. There was not enough of hazel’s grieving and getting over Gus. And you only really saw her cry about him dying, once when he actually died.
The romance in this book was basic. It was the romance that you see in every YA romance book. You know the typical one where they can’t get enough for each other, and had a bright future together, but some things went down, and it didn’t work out in the long run. And I feel like their relationship moved way to fast, where one minute they where friends and they next they where having sex in Amsterdam. Anyway, I do feel like Gus and Hazel had two different perspectives on the romance. I feel like hazel took everything a little to fast, but Gus just went with it to make her happy. But I do think hazel and Gus did have some feeling for each other, but it was mostly the first love syndrome for Hazel.
I feel like Gus’s cancer moved really quickly. Granted I think it was brewing before they went to Amsterdam. But I feel like the cancer was, he was fine, he went to the hospital, he was fine again, he got sicker, he puked, and then he died. And I feel John Green didn’t handle the death that greatly, with hazel not crying. But, I think it was just common sense that she cried, but it got to the point I don’t even know.
Anyway, moving on from the basic review, I have a theory, that actually makes some sense. So, we all know hazel and gus love the imperial affection, it’s want brings them together somewhat. And hazel and Gus said that the book just stoped since Anna, the main character, dies or gets to sick to write the rest of the story. So, my theory is TFIOS just ends after hazel got the note, because she died or got to sad because of Gus’s death. It’s just a theory, I’m not saying anything it true, but it does make some sense.
That’s it from me today, I hope you enjoyed, and comment if you read the book, and what you thought.
