hello everyone! happy day two of blogmas! today i am going to be talking about all the books that i’m excited for that are coming out in December. i honestly feel like there wasn’t to many books coming out in December, compared to other months recently, which is kind of weird since Christmas is coming up soon.
the cousins by Karen M. McManus. this book comes out December 1st. this book is all about Mill, Aubrey, and Jonah who are all cousins, but they barely know each other and they have never met their grandmother. since the grandmother disinherited their parents before the kids were born. just like every family, the Story family has their secrets, which pulled them apart and then drew them together.
the love curse of melody McIntyre by Robin Talley. this book comes out December 1st. the one thing that drew me into this book was that it is a story about queer theater kids. but, Melody always has a plan for everything, but she doesn’t have a plan for success with love. each time she falls for someone during the school performance, the romance and the show both end terribly. so, she swears any and all entanglements till their production of Les Mis is all over. but, then she meets Odile Rose.
the good girls by Claire Eliza Bartlett. this book also comes out December 1st. in this American high school it has a troublemaker, an overachiever, a cheer captain, and a dead girl. but, everyone in this school has some sort of label, just like Emma being always known for the good girl.
what she found in the woods by Josephine Angelini. this book also comes out December 1st. after Magdalena running from the scandal in New York, she heads home to recover under the radar. she never feels like she will escape her past, until she meets Bo out hiking, he makes her believe she is able to move on. then a mutilated body is found in the woods, she realizes that she cannot trust nobody.
new years kiss by Lee Matthews. this book comes out December 1st. Tess and Lauren are spending their Christmas vacation in the Evergreen lodge in Vermont, which they aren’t happy about since their stern grandmother owns the holiday resort. but, once Tess meets Christopher in the lobby, things finally start to look better. so, she creates a bucket list for her to accomplish before New Years, and plus side is, Christopher is completely involved.
coming up for air by Nicole Tyndall. this book comes out December 15th. since Hadley’s mom’s cancer scare, she is has taking risks, and after seeing her sister go through heartbreak about heartbreak, she has no interest in dating. but, then she meets Braden enters the picture. Hadley tries to steer clear, but then the first moment together, they are perfect sparring partners and it gets intoxicating. Braden shows Hadley how to live again and she gets to be the happiest she has ever been, until the family is faced with terrible news and Braden gets hiding a dark secret. now, everything they build is starting to threating to shatter again.
anyway, that is all for today! i’m honestly so freaking excited for this book. i cannot wait to get into all of these books, hopefully soon, but who knows. but, i’ll see you guys tomorrow for blogmas day three.

PRANCER– A BOOK WITH A MAP

anyway, that is all for today! i honestly am so excited to read all of these books, and maybe they will all be good. and hopefully i can read a lot of these books, since they are all arcs. but, i still hope you enjoyed this, and i’ll see you guys tomorrow for blogmas day 2!
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all the books i’ve read in November! it’s honestly insane to write this post since i feel like november literally just started, but its actually the end of the month. but, i did have a really good reading month, which was honestly amazing.
a good girls guide to murder by Holly Jackson. i gave this book 5/5 stars. yes, this is my third time reading year, and yes we aren’t going to talk about it. but, my thoughts are all the same from the first two times, and i honestly love all these characters so freaking much.
punching the air by Ibi Zobi and Yusef Salaam. i gave this book 3/5 stars. i honestly didn’t really like this book that much. i honestly found this book to be kind of repetitive and after awhile of everything being repeated to many times it actually put me to sleep, which never happens. but, i still really like the whole poetry part, and it was really cool.
head over heels by Hannah Orenstein. i gave this book 3/5 stars. this book had so much potential, but it didn’t even get close to it. one of my biggest issues was how they bring up all this talk about sexual assault, but then they just dropped it after a couple of pages. and it was honestly only brought up when it was convent for the plot.
of mice and men by John Steinbeck. i gave this book 3/5 stars. this book wasn’t terrible, wasn’t it amazing either. i did read this book for school, and i honestly can totally see why it was.
burn our bodied down by Rory Power. i gave this book 3/5 stars. i actually dnfed this book the first time, but then i tried the audiobook and it was a lot better. but, this book was honestly all over the place. i honestly wished there was more romance, and have it deal more with the lgbtq romance and also topics brought up. but, i didn’t really care for the ending, since it was all over the place.
in a holidaze by Christina Lauren. i gave this book 4/5 stars. overall, this book was actually pretty good, but definitely not the best book they wrote together. but, the romance was kind of a hotmess, but it still was kind of decent.
the unofficial Disney park cookbook by Ashley Craft. i gave this book 3/5 stars. i honestly found out that this book was kind of mansplaining. i mean, i feel like everything was more of the author was like telling you about everything, never really showing. but, i still want to try some of these recipes out. but, thank you netgalley for this arc!
the black flamingo by Dean Atta. i gave this book 4/5 stars. i liked this book to some degree, but it also wasn’t the best book that i’ve read. my biggest issues was i thought this book was a lot more drag and figuring out everything, but i found this book to be more about his childhood and growing up.
haunted mansion by Sina Grace. i gave this book 4/5 stars. this book was honestly super quick and it was honestly super cute. but, i do think that this book would be perfect for kids when they are doing to Disney for the first time. or even after they go to keep the magic alive.
she’s with me by Jessica Cunsolo. i gave this book 2/5 stars. this book was honestly super bad. i mean, i think that this book was honestly so 2015, and you can honestly tell that it’s a wattpad book. but, i was kind of surprised that this book wasn’t that toxic, like it was kind of bad, but not as bad as after.
the invincible summer of Juniper Jones by Daven McQueen. i gave this book 4.5/5 stars. this book was honestly so beautiful and i really liked how they talked about race and how it happened, but is no way correct. and in school i always got told the white person pov, and i thought this was so cool that it had the Black kids pov.
kingdom of the wicked by Kerri Maniscalo. i gave this book 5/5 stars. i honestly loved this book so freaking much. i honestly found this book to be so amazing. but, i honestly was kind of shocked to see how the fantasy, witchcraft, romance, and also the whole mystery played together. and it was just so good about how everything played together.
crazy stupid bromance by Lyssa Kay Adams. i gave this book 2/5 stars. i honestly had such high hopes for this book, since i loved the first book so much, but the second book fell a little short for me, but then this book i just did not like. i feel like the romance was a little rushed, but then it just became a book about fighting and family drama, which got annoying, since it wasn’t romantic at all.
stay with me by Jessica Cunsolo. i gave this book 1/5 stars. i had such high hopes for this book, since i didn’t really mind the first book, besides how dramatic it was. but, this book was so focused on family drama and petty high school friend drama, it got to be annoying after awhile. and honestly after awhile the romance got to be a little lacking.
historally inaccurate by Shay Bravo. i gave this book 1/5 stars. honestly, i did not like this book at all. i honestly found that the plot was just super slow, and the writing was also pretty bad. and honestly this had so much potential, but it was not good in the end.
anyway, that is all for today! i honestly had a pretty good reading month, even though i didn’t like all the books that i read. but, hopefully i will read better books in December, and that i’ll keep up how many books i read.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about all the books that i hauled this month. i feel like i did haul a little bit of a smaller amount of arcs, which was honestly so cool. but, i also just wanted to talk about how i got approved to get any Disney ARC i want from them, which was so cool.
strange death of the last romantic by Moses Yuriyvich Mikheyev. this book came out November 17th, 2020. and just like the title says, this book sounds kind of strange. but, this book is all about a man who killed himself for the first time when he was 10 years old. but, then a bunch of times since then, he realizes that he cannot die. so, this book is kind of giving me Addie LaRue vibes, since the main character cannot die.
go the distance by Jen Calonita. this book comes out April 6th, 2020. this is like the 7th book in the twisted tales series, and i honestly love this series so much. but, this books plot is ‘what if meg turned into a god?’ which honestly sounds so cool. but, this book takes place after Hercules proves himself to be a real hero and that everything seems right. but, then Zeus tells Meg that she can’t be with Hercules since she is a mortal.
the project by Courtney Summer. this book comes out February 2nd, 2021. i’m honestly so freaking excited to read this book, since i love Sadie so much. but this book is all about Lo Denahm who has always been on her own after her parents died and her sister joined The Unity Project, which makes Lo to take care of her great aunt. but, when a man shows up at the magazine Lo works, claiming that The Unity Project killed his son, she sees the perfect chance to put in some detective work. that’s kind of a bad description, but i don’t want to ramble for to long.
not our summer by Casie Bazay. this book comes out May 11th, 2021. this book is about two cousins, Becka and KJ, haven’t seen each other in a while, but then they do, it’s for their grandfather funeral. but, before their grandfather died, he left them a bucket list of places to visit together over the summer, so they can both earn their inheritance.
words composed of sea and sky by Erica George. this book comes out May 25th, 2021. this is all about Michaela Dunn who just wants to get into art school, but her stepfather refuses to pay for her trip there for a poetry contest. Michaele enters a local contest that is looking for a poet to write a dedication honoring Captain Benjamin Churchill. but, when Michaela is looking for clues about this legend, she discovers the diary of Leta Townsend who is writes under Benjamin Churchill.
hello cruel heart by Maureen Johnson. this book comes out April 6th, 2021. this book is the prequel to the story of Cruella de Vil. this story takes place when Estella is sixteen years old, and she has the talent and ambition to become a renowned fashion designer. and this is inspired by the new disney live action movie, cruella.
among the beast and briars by Ashley Poston. so, i got this book in my November owlcrate, and i’m honestly kind of disappointed, since i wish this the box had a book by someone that was less well known and the author wasn’t in their boxes before. but this book is about a kingdom that doesn’t have droughts, diseases, or famine, but peace is always a thing. but, as the city got better, the forests around it got darker, curst, and forbidden.
anyway, that’s it for today! i hope you enjoyed this blog post about all the books, or mostly ebooks, that i hauled this month. i’m honestly so excited for most of these books, and i have high hopes for so many of these, so hopefully they check out.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about blogmas in December! if you don’t know what blogmas is, its basically daily blog all December for Christmas.
basically, what i wanted to come on here and say, that i’m going to be doing this all month. and for blogmas there is going to be a lot of reviews, i was going to try to get all my books that i read in November up, but that will probably not happen whatsoever.
anyway, i am going to try to get up 31 blog posts for each day of December. i was going to tell what i was to post, but then i would have to keep my word on not change it 50 times. anyway, so i just wanted to just say that i was going to be doing this.
but, this is probably going to be kind of a hot mess, since i do have exams and everything in December, but hopefully this will give me a little break from studying for exams. so, hopefully you still enjoy this and whatever.
i know a lot of booktubers and even bloggers will do like a massive wrap up for the year in December, but i’m going to be doing that in January instead, so like my worst books and best book, will all come in January.
anyway, this is a shorter blog post, but i hope you enjoyed this post. and i’m honestly so excited for blogmas this year. and i honestly hope you guys like this and it doesn’t turn out to be a hot mess.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about good girl, bad blood by Holly Jackson. i gave this book 5/5 stars. i am probably one of the biggest fans of this book/ series so i am honestly so excited to talk about this book again and again, since i love it so much. there is going to be spoilers in this post about book 1, so if you haven’t read it, i would skip this.
one of my favorite things in this whole story was the podcast element. since, in here we get to watch this podcast come to life, and then Ravi and Pip to work on this together. and i mean, this thing was so cool to see what is happening with Elliot, Max, Becca, and even Howie. and even how the podcast helped solve the kidnapping of Jamie, and trying to figure out what happened to him.
i also really liked how there was some talk about ptsd inside this book. i mean, i found the whole ptsd parts made everything a little more believable, since you cannot get over like watching your best friends father to admit to kill someone. and especially to see Ravi helping her through it. and anyway, i feel like if there wasn’t talk about ptsd with Pip, it wouldn’t work that well.
i would have liked a little bit more romance in this book. i mean, i feel like in the start it was like “oh they are dating,” and then the L word got dropped towards the end. but, i honestly just wanted like cute little scenes and like them being a basic couple. but, seeing that Pip is going to college next year, and Ravi is doing whatever he is going to do, hopefully we’ll get something more since they aren’t at Pip’s home. but, the moments that we did get were super cute, and i honestly loved this so much.
and seeing that this is a high school murder mystery with some romance, i expected to have some high school petty drama and even the cliché romance drama. i mean, there was one scene between Ravi and Pip that there was a massive yelling match, but it was still pretty close to the case and wasn’t about like Dexter or something stupid. and even for high school there was like one scene that was some petty drama, but like it all was about the case.
if you don’t know, i’m a massive true crime fan. i’m literally a die hard fan of Kendall Rae and her podcast, Mile Higher Podcast, and among different true crime youtubers. so, reading this book was like one big Kendall Rae video into a book, which was so cool. and like this would be the perfect book/series for anyone that likes books/videos like this.
this book also left me completely speechless when i was reading this. i mean it was so all over the place and it was so twisty and it had so many turns. i will say though, i wish there was more mixed media in this book. like in the first book there was so many different emails and call logs, but in here there definitely was some, i just wished there was more. but, there was more pictures and maps, i just kind of wanted some more interviews and calls.
i also feel like this book was so much darker then the first book. like since this book is happening current day, and it is happening right when you are reading it, not five years in the past. with that being said, i feel like all the emotion that Jackson packed into this book just made this book darker and way more powerful.
another thing i really liked that this book dealt with more real life things. like obviously there was a ton of talk about rape, and that is honestly something that we sadly see a lot about it. but, there was also a ton of talk about social media, and how social media plans a massive role today in today missing persons case. and i honestly thought it was so cool, and i hope this gets brought more into the third book.
i know why people would find it weird that an 18 yea old can solve kidnapping/murders when the police can. but, i mean she does have her friends to help her and she does ask for help from other people in the town.
Pip- i honestly completely love her so much. and like i feel like she is such a unique character, since in she was so independent, but also like used the help when she got it. and like her and ravi were so cute when they were together.
Ravi-i honestly completely love him so much. like he is like kinda nerdy, but like in a kinda hot way, which was super cool. and i honestly feel so bad for him with what was happening in the start/middle. but, i still really love him, if you couldn’t tell.
NOW FOR SOME SPOILERS-
this might just be me, but i did find it kind of easy to figure out who was actually behind Layla Mead. i mean, i feel like out of all the clues and also Charlie and Flora are new to the town and now all this stuff is happening. and also when you like watch killer documentaries, they all say that they are super nice and like really charming, which is how i found it was pretty easy to pick Charlie as the person.
but, the end of the novel when Charlie killed Stanley honestly broke my heart. like i never really cared for Stanley in the first book, but when he died i was so upset. and i also didn’t really connect that Charlie’s sister was one of the victim of Stanley/Child and then Stanley’s dad. which i honestly thought it was kind of cool that they were connect this way.
if you don’t follow me on twitter, (bookish_r) i’ve been talking about how much i loved Charlie so much, even though he is a murder. like he honestly as so sweet (i know i already said that made him seem like a killer.) but, i honestly felt so bad for him when he was telling his life story. and this could completely just be because who i fancast him as, i completely love. but, anyway i still really liked.
anyway, that is all for today! if you couldn’t tell, i completely love this book so freaking much. but, i know this review is honestly a hotmess, and it probably was because i’m also reading this book right now, which probably doesn’t help this review at all. but, i do feel like that this book didn’t have that many triggers as the first book, and luckily no animals died.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about heartstoppers volume 1-3 by Alice Osemen. so, this is going to be a joined review for each of these books, since i don’t really have enough feelings to make each book it’s own review. but, i’ll make sure to put headings for each book so you don’t get spoiled. i also did read these books on Tapas, so it might be a little different from the published version.
HEARTSTOPPERS VOLUME 1-
so, i gave heartstoppers volume 1 by Alice Oseman 5/5 stars. this book was honestly such an adorable book, and i’m not a big graphic novel fan by any means. but, i actually really liked this book so much.
trigger warning- non consensual kissing, homophobia, bullying, discrimination, mention of physical/ emotional abuse, cheating, swearing.
i did find that who the characters were got to be a little bit confusing at parts. and like not really the side characters, more of the fact that i kind of just forgot who Charlie and Nick were. i mean i obviously figured it out, but at the start it just to be a little confusing, since i would keep mixing up who the different person was. and the side characters were a little confusing, but it got to be pretty easy since Oseman did put like “Ellie” and then a small picture of her, which is something i really appreciated.
but, i also really liked that Charlie was out in his school. i feel like a lot of the books that i do read, most of the characters aren’t out, which is completely fine, but this was super cool. and this might sound kinda bad, but i really liked that the coming out wasn’t perfect. since, i feel like in a lot of books i read everyone is always super supportive, which i love, but i thought it was really cool to see that everything isn’t perfect for these characters, which is really similar to real life.
i did find it a little unrealistic for Charlie to be only 14 years old. i mean, i feel like he acted like an adult half of the time, or at least 17 years old, when he was in fact 14. and Nick is roughly 16, since he is a year above in school. and i just wanted to bring this up, so if anyone is uncomfortable with reading a romance graphic novel with a 14 year old, they would know.
and honestly Charlie was just such a perfect friend to Nick when he was questioning his sexuality. like he always was there to talk about different sexuality’s and like it honestly just made me so happy, since in all the queer books i’ve read they always are alone. so this was honestly just so amazing to hear stories were you are completely questioning everything and your not completely figured out.
this book is also such a slow burn story. i mean, this whole book is Nick and Charlie figuring everything out, but also then falling in love. and like there is like four kisses, and that was it. and i honestly loved this so much, and it add so much in here, and like to be able to see this.
HEARTSTOPPERS VOLUME 2-
i gave this book 5/5 stars also. this book was also so freaking cute, and i loved how everyone worked together. and like most of the people in this book was just so supportive, and it honestly just made me so freaking happy when they did this.
trigger warning- homophobia
honestly, i have never really read another book that has more diversity then this book. like we have a gay main character, bisexual main character, trans side character, and also a f/f couple. this honestly just made me so happy, and since all these characters helped Charlie feel comfortable in his own skin. which, honestly just made me so happy.
another thing i really liked was how supportive Charlie’s mom was when he came out. like honestly i feel like in a lot of places they are so pissed off, but Charlie’s mom was just so happy and like supported him all the way threw. and this whole thing just made me so happy.
i also completely love the gym teacher so much. like, i don’t really like she 100% knew that Charlie and Nick were together for some of the book, but i do think she was picking something up. anyway, she just like defended them no matter what happens. and like i completely loved when she told the homophobes off.
as for the different voice of this novel, i feel like these two are so easy to tell apart. i feel like in some romance novels, the couples kind of have the same voice, but i feel like in here Charlie and Nick were so different. it might be because their like teenagers, but i still really liked that.
HEARTSTOPPERS VOLUME 3-
just like the rest of them, i also gave this book 5/5 stars. this book was honestly such a cute story, and i completely fell in love with this story more after this book. but, i do think this book is a little more heavy then the first and second one though.
trigger warning- cutting, eating disorder, homophobia, and biphobia.
i did want to punch Charlie’s brother in the face when he came into the story though. i mean, he was just so mean to Charlie when their mother told him. but, i mean he only had a little bit of a part in this story. but this honestly just pissed me off , especially since he was so MIA throughout the story.
i also found the Paris trip to be so amazing. i mean, we got to see all the friends all together, which was just so amazing. like we seriously got to see them all interacting, and Charlie and Nick getting some cute moments, and it was just so heart warming. and like what is a better setting for a romance graphic novel then Paris?
one thing that i didn’t really understand throughout this story was how they would like tenderly hold people in the classroom or like be really touchy in like public. like they always said that they were keeping it a secrets and that nobody can know. i mean i personally think it is kinda weird when you are like holding anyone i the classroom.
but, can we also just take a moment to talk about Nick’s sister? like she had this older sister wisdom, which is something i loved so freaking much. she always supported Nick with this sexuality and then getting with Charlie. and one of my favorite quotes of this book/series is when she said “oh your being gay. good job. carry on.”
and i’m not really sure who said this, but i literally laughed out loud when someone said “this is some twilight level pinning.” i just found that one so funny. i’m not really sure if this is an actual quote, or if i just read it in the comments of the book, but i just wanted to bring it up since it’s so funny.
also, lets just take a moment to talk about the teachers, okay? i mean they both were so cute and i honestly ship them so much. like they just worked together so well. and that little chapter that was on Tapas together just made me so happy and it was so cute.
anyway, i really loved these books. they were just so cute and heart warming. like their romance was so slow burn and just watch these characters fall in love and like figure out their sexuality and everything like that. i’m honestly so excited to read book four.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about the hunger games by Suzanne Collins. i gave this book 4/5 stars. i know that i’m super late to the hype of this book, but i honestly loved this book so much when i was reading it and i’m honestly kinda embarrassed that it took me this long to read it.
one thing i really wanted was more explanation about the world. like i knew a little bit about it, like they live in the poor section and that their was a forest, and also that there was that cliché stores in the middle of the town like in in every fantasy world. but, i just wish we got more talk about what it looked like and how everything is laid out and what it actually looks like.
i honestly love how Peeta and Katniss interact together. like they were just so freaking cute together. and it was so cool to see how protective Peeta was of Katniss, and how always wanted what was best for her in this story. and when they worked together, it just made this book so amazing.
this is kinda similar to what i already said, i am one of those few people that think this, but i ship Peeta and Katniss so much. i mean, throughout the whole book Peeta just made Katniss so happy and their dynamic together was just so amazing, and i really want to see them more of a couple/ duo in the next couple books.
i did really like the pace of this novel. throughout the whole novel it was super fast pace, which i really like in books, especially fantasy. and i feel like it never really got super slow or even like really really fast were i couldn’t understand it. so, i really liked it and i really like how everything flowed so much, and just the general pace.
i feel like in a lot of books you deal with the girl to be like super boring and needs a guy to carry her around. but, in this book Katniss is super badass and i mean all she does is for herself and she doesn’t need any man to help her. honestly, she makes this book one of those books that i’ll 100% make my future daughter read when is like 13ish.
i also normally hate politics in books, but in here i didn’t actually hate it. like there was times i thought that it was unneeded. but, for the most part i liked the whole politics part, which was very shocking. i mean, this could just be the writing style of the author, but it was so captivating.
and i feel like some of these older YA books don’t have that good writing. but, this book was completely different. the writing was honestly so captivating, and i mean it really drew me into this story. and i mean if this was written terribly, i feel like i would not have liked this story as much as i did.
i also feel like the whole portrayed of reality tv is something that is somewhat timeless. i mean, everyone has probably watched the Kardashian’s at least once in their life, and this is just darker and murdery. like it is really cool that they used reality tv in order to gain more support, and to show their family that their loved ones was okay. and like this just let everyone feel a little bit more realistic, in some way.
i feel like Collins did a good job about talking about hunger in this story. i mean i feel like it shows that in Katniss and Peeta’s district and how little they eat, and how they have to deal with it. but, also about their games and how they have not a lot of food, but they will get some if they do good.
Katniss- it’s honestly kind of hard for me to talk about her. since, she has so many different layers. and she was so family orientated, which is something i really like when i’m reading a book.
Peeta- i’ve already talked about him a little bit. but, i really like his overall humor and how like funny he was, even in the harmer moments. and he really pushed Katniss to be as best as she could be and as much as he wanted to protect her, he also wanted to push her.
anyway, that is it for today. i really liked this book, and i hope that i can read the second book hopefully in december, but who knows. but, thank you so much for reading this post, and i hope you enjoyed this post.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about cinderella is dead by Kalynn Baryon. i gave this book 4/5 stars. i honestly loved this book so much, but i do have a couple of issues with it, which i’ll explain more in the next couple paragraphs. but, thank you so much netgalley for giving me this arc. and this review is completely unbiased.
one of my biggest issues with this book, is the romance. i’m a big romance fan, and i pretty much only read books that deal with some sort of romance. but, in here the romance was kind of shitty. my biggest issue with the romance was how Sophia went on and on about how she is in love with Erin, but then Sophia just kind of gets with Constance. and honestly that just rubbed me the wrong way, since she was in love with this other girl for years and years and then she just says “oh who cares lets just get with someone else.” and this just honestly annoyed the hell out of me.
another thing about the romance was how it was insta love. i personally don’t really like insta love, but this was just kind of annoying in here. since, i mean Sophia just was so in love with Erin and then right when she just like met Constance and then she just moved on so quick. but i do think that this book wasn’t romance heavy, but still was pretty insta love.
and i do feel like a lot of YA fantasy’s that i hear about on Instagram and even booktube it is very insta love. and i honestly feel like that just needs to be changed in general for YA fantasy romances. they just need to pick another path besides insta love.
i do wish we did get more explanation on the world. i feel like we just got zero explanation besides a little bit here and there about what Cinderella was like and things about how this world lived dealt with Cinderella. but, i do wish we just got some more about the world and how everything works.
and i don’t read that much fantasy, but one thing i wanted was more meat about Sophia. like this whole book was about over throwing the government. i understand that she wants to over throw it since she hates how everything is ruled over, but i just wanted to know why? why would you want to do this? want drives you to do this? and i feel like she had drive, but i just wanted to know what pushed her.
but i also feel like the pace within this book was pretty decent. there was times that it was super predicable, but other then that i thought it was pretty decent. but, i feel like a lot of YA books are predicable, but that is kind of against the point. but, i just wanted to bring that up, since it had a nice pace, but also predicable.
i also really like the fairy godmother. and i feel like this character was kind was all over the place, but i do really like her and what she was doing for Constance and Sophia. and like she was super sweet, but i won’t get into to much about her since i don’t want to spoil anyone for the ending of this book.
the ban of characters in this book were super cool. i mean obviously our main character is a lesbian, and then Constance is probably bisexual (i don’t really remember if it was said but i saw people call her bisexual so that’s what i’m gonna say,) and then also Luke who was gay. and i honestly really liked all of them and they all worked together so well.
i’ve probably already talked about this like 100 times, but i did not really care for the ending of this book. i mean, i’ve of course read better endings, but it wasn’t like completely terrible like some endings. i feel like my biggest issue was how boring it was. i mean, i created this whole ending in my head, which i’ll do below in a spoiler warning. but, i did hope that it would pack a punch.
Sophia- i honestly really like how head strong she is. and i think that it was so cool to see how she would overthrow the government. and i mean it was even more amazing that she was lesbian and also Black. since most books are like white girls that are pissed. so this was honestly a nice surprise and since she was like so badass.
Constance- she was honestly my favorite character in this whole book. i mean she was just so bad ass and like i loved how she always stuck with Sophia no matter what. and she was just so fun and i loved the whole bomb parts. but, i do wish that we got more of her personality thoughout the story.
King Manford- i honestly really liked his character. i’m not sure why because he was kind of a dick, but i really liked that he was married to Cinderella 200 years ago. but, i also can see why Sophia hated him, and why he was such a dick.
Fairy Godmother- i really loved her throughout the book. i did find her a little odd throughout the novel, especially when she was just in the cabin, which overall was kind of odd. like as a introvert, but i don’t think i could ever live in the forest with literally nobody else.
SPOLIER WARNING-
so here is how i wanted the ending to go and how i image it. so, i completely want the whole godmother turned into King Manford’s mother, but when Sophia goes to kill Manford he like starts talking about Constance, but then we learn that King Manford and Constance are the same person. So, Sophia has to kill both of them and does. but, in the end Erin leaves her husband and then Sophia and Erin get together.
so, obviously this ending doesn’t quite work, and i didn’t really explain it that well. but, this is how i would have wanted it to go, if i wrote this book, or even like a movie script. but i would really like Constance and Manford being the same person.
anyway, that is all for today! thank you so much Netgalley for this arc! i highly recommend this book to everyone, especially if you like the original disney movie, but like years and years in the future after the happily ever after.
hello everyone! today i am going to be talking about who i was with her by Nita Tyndall. i gave this book 3/5 stars. overall, this book was pretty good, but i did have some issues with a couple of the characters, but i still greatly enjoyed this book.
trigger warnings- loss of a loved one, sex, biphobia, homophobia, alcoholism, slut shaming, trying to make someone come out.
one thing that i would have really liked is more of the book when Maggie and Corinne together. i mean, we got little parts here and there, but i would have liked more chapters of them together and to actually see their relationship when they were dating. but, there was still parts, i just wished there was more parts when they were happy and just like in love.
but, i do think the whole exploration of grief was so well done. like it was so heartbreaking, but also so heartwarming at times since we watched Corinne get better and not as sad anymore. and honestly it was so hard to hear Corinne not be able to explore the grief openly, since she wasn’t out of the closet yet in the public eye. and i just really felt for her since she was keeping so much a secrets, and like even from her friends and family she couldn’t openly grieve.
and i know when you read some sadder books the emotion is in all the wrong places, and it gets to be quite a hotmess, but i do feel like the emotion was in all of the right places. and there was some moments that we happier, like when we saw a little bit of their relationship developing. but i honestly thought the emotion was so well written, and i hope the author writes more books like this in the near future.
i do feel like they did make Corinne have somewhat of a younger voice then she was supposed to be. like i believe that she was supposed to be 17-18 and i feel like it was she was 15-16ish. i know for a fact she can drive, so i’m gonna assume roughly 17, but i feel like her voice just sounded kinda younger voice. and this might just be because of all the emotion it just made her seem younger, but i stull just wanted to point this out. and it also might be because there was a lot of sentences being repeated over and over again.
i did feel like it was kind of weird that Corinne didn’t think anything was wrong when Maggie didn’t text her the night before she found out. like if one of my friends just stopped texting me i would probably be a little alerted, and we don’t even do the whole goodnight crap so. but, i thought it was kind of weird she never like texted Maggie’s brother.
i also kind of thought Corinne was a little selfish at different points. like i can understand that it is hard to deal with alcoholic mother and how she is going to some out, and hell her girlfriend died. but, i feel like there was just events that she was being so selfish. and also how she used her dead girlfriend’s ex, Elissa, for her own personal gain, so she can get closer to Maggie in some way.
this 100% might just be me, but i really found it odd that Elissa and Corinne just got together, like kind of romantically. like why Corinne wanted to do it was completely selfish, but i have no clue why Elissa do it, since she got nothing to gain or loose here. and i just found it weird since if you both were so in love with her now or in the past, it’s kinda weird that you meet at Maggie’s funeral, but then you just date her. this might have just been me, but i found it really weird.
i really wish we got told more about the asexual character. like we got told a little bit about her, but it was like in the start we got told a little bit about her situation and how she didn’t really want to have sex, but when the character finally came out, we got nothing about her anymore. which, was kind of annoying since we could have got so much growth between Corrine and her friend.
i also feel like it was hard to actually get to know the main character. i mean it was probably because of the grief in this book, which i loved, but if you asked me what Corrine’s hobby is, I’d just star at you blankly. and i’ve read other books with grief, and i feel like we got told more about them and their interest.
i feel like even though there is issues with this book, but i do think that the premise and the representation was good enough that I’d still read it. i mean the story was amazing and i really liked everything that was going on in this. and honestly the writing was pretty good, so i would still give this a go.
Corinne- as much as i want to love her character, i feel like i cant since we don’t know a lot about her. i mean i feel like we could connect with her more. and i do feel like she was kind of petty and selfish, which just made me not really like her.
Maggie- i do wish we got to see more about her. like i feel like we were supposed to feel bad for her, since she died in a car crash, but i feel like i could not feel bad that she is dead since i knew shit about her.
anyway, that is it for today! i still really enjoyed this book, since we got to see how they are getting over their grief and trying to come out and still feel safe in their community.
