hello everyone! today i am going to be doing a double review about don’t stay up late and one evil summer by RL Stine. these books were honestly kind of bad, hence why i just wanted to combine them into one blog post.
DON’T STAY UP LATE-
so first off, i gave this book 4/5 stars. i didn’t really hate this book, but i do really like that much since i had a bunch of little issues with this book. and some of them are just a little petty. but, i’ll explain some of my issues.
one of my things was that Stein literally had no clue how to write a teenager for the life of him. i personally found this to be very like stereotypical for all the teenagers in this book. and i mean, it’s not the end of the world, but i just found this to be super annoying.
another thing that made me kind of pissed, was how Stein went on and on to talk about how much our main character was a twisted psycho. like the first line had something along the lines about how much of a twisted psycho she was. and there never was any reason why she was such a twisted psycho, they just kept saying it over and over.
i also found that the whole baby demon crap was so obvious. i mean, i could totally tell that Harry was 100% the demon. with that being said, i still don’t kind of understand how the demon could be in one place, yet Harry was in the closet. and if this was just written better, this had so much more potential to be scary.
on another hand, i feel like this book was quite clunky and very empty. with all that being said, if i have read this book before. but, if i read this book when i a lot younger. this book would have been super easy to read, since this book just was so good when your a kid with dyslexia, like i was.
i don’t know about you, but i’ve always been taught in school that you shouldn’t used the same verb more then once in a paragraph. but, i feel like in this book it always was like “i went, he goes, i ran, i said, he said, i asked, he asked.” and for obvious reasons it got to be so annoying, and just got super annoying.
ONE EVIL SUMMER
i gave this book 2/5 stars. i honestly hated this book so much. but, i feel like this book could have been so much more better, but this one was not it in the end of it all.
this book was honestly such a stereotypical book. i mean, for me i feel like this book had the whole “oh she has mental illness so she’s not stable” crap that’s in a lot of older books. well also doing the whole crap about how all babysitters are always liars and don’t know how to do anything right.
there was also this whole weird plot about how her cat died, shocker. and it went on and on and on how this cat got killed, and that how the cat is always right and if he doesn’t like someone, that person is a bad person. and i really like animals, but in this book it even got to be a bit much, since there was so much talk about them.
i also think the whole basic revenge plot got a little bit stupid after awhile. like it was honestly so basic and the most cliché thing in the world. and it honestly wanted me to bang my head into my phone.
anyway, that is it for this blog post. this was honestly all over the place, since i didn’t have that many big thoughts on this book. but, hopefully i’ll see you guys all tomorrow for day 5.
